Customizer Has Stopped Working

I am using WordPress 4.2.1 and switched to the Premium Version 2.4.2 of the Vantage Theme this morning. Right after I switched to the Premium version the customizer worked long enough for me to add a background image to my site. I would like to do some further customization of the theme such as changing some of the colors. The customizer won’t load again. I have tried uninstalling the theme and reinstalling it. I tried deactivating plugins. None of these have worked to get it working again. It tries to load but only loads the block with the name of the site. None of the other blocks load.

Temporarily switching to a different theme and the customizer will load as it should. I either need to get the customizer working again or find out the custom css code to use to change the color of the menu bar and footer.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Gungholady

Just to confirm you did this : You disabled all non-SiteOrigin plugins and then re-enabled the plugins one by one while checking whether the issue is solved? If not kindly do so.

Then go to Appearance > Customize > Theme Design and look for Menu and footer options there.

    Let me know the outcome

Yes, I disabled all non-SiteOrigin plugins and still no ability to use Appearance>Customize. I see there are newer threads than mine with the same problem. None of my plugins are in conflict.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Gungholady

I apologize for the delayed response. Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:

    [email protected]

Just navigate to Users > Add New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and [email protected] for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the “Send Password” field so we receive the details.

Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.

Looking forward to hearing from you

I had to switch to a different theme because of this problem. So I don't know if you still want to follow through on it or not.

    Hi Gungholady

Yes I want to follow this through as this is a unique issue. I would like to check your Admin panel to investigate where the issue arises from.

    Hi Gungholady

I have received the details but I see you have not switched backed to Vantage. Would you mind setting this up for us so that we could jump right in with your preferences in place?

Let me know when this is ready

I sent you a couple replies last night but doesn’t look like you got them. I turned Vantage back on. with the home page empty I was able to get the customizer to open. I went in set my color settings the way I wanted, used Page Builder to redo the home page, went to Vantage setting and made sure the settings were the way I wanted, then tried customizer again so I could add a background image. Customizer would not open. It only has the 1 section of what should be on the right hand side. The side where the preview normally is has the wait symbol in the center. Nothing ever happens from there. I can leave the computer for 5-10 minutes and it is still showing the wait symbol.

You still have the login rights to my web site. Have you found the answer to this issue yet?

    Hi Gungholady

Sorry for the delayed response. I have just logged in and checked your Customizer and it is working as expected. Did you have this solved?

    Kindly let me know.

I just tried it again and I am still having the same issue. Is there some where I can post a screen shot of what I get?

  13. 9 years, 5 months ago Daniel
    Hi, I Work Here

If you have google drive or dropbox account, you can link the image and post the url to it for me to view.

Here is the screen I get. I can walk away for 5 minutes or more and it never finishes loading so that I can access the rest of the customizer:

The problem turned out to be Site Origins Page Builder. When it is deactivated, Customizer works as it should.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Gungholady

That’s odd, Site Origins Page Builder does not have conflict with the theme. It is highly likely that you are encountering a 3-way plugin conflict.Kindly, disable all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Looking forward to hearing from you

  17. 9 years, 5 months ago gungholady

Deactivating the other plugins did not solve the issue. Only the deactivation of Page Builder solved it.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Gungholady

Can you also confirm which version of Page Builder you’re running. There was an issue that occasionally came up with Page Builder and the customizer, but we fixed this issue. From there, can you check if you’re getting any Javascript issues when you load up the customizer?

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Your_Browser_to_Diagnose_JavaScript_Errors#Step_3:_Diagnosis

With those 2 figured out, we should be able to help you diagnose the issue.

  19. 9 years, 5 months ago gungholady

It was version 2.1.2. I am going to have to uninstall it and find something else to use. It is causing issues with JetPack, Yoast SEO, and media libraries. I tried to do the debug that you sent but all I got was a 505 page error. Thanks for all your help but Page Builder is causing too many issues.

    Hi, I Work Here

Hi. So sorry for the hassles here. We understand your frustration, very hard to get on with things when the Customizer won’t load! Greg and I looked at this again now. We think it might be a PHP memory issue. If you’d ever like to re-look at the problem, please reply here and we’ll jump in ASAP. Wish we could have resolved things right away.

    Hello

Thank you for looking at this. For the record, I approached my hosting company UK2 about this and they confirmed that the memory limit on their server is 128MB so there should be no problem there. They also looked in the error_log in my public_html directory and didn't find any errors. There didn't appear to be any php or apache errors.

Are you saying the problem has been resolved?

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for the update. I’m on chat with Greg, he’d love to take a look. If you could enable the login details you previously sent OR using Private Reply below, send a new set of details we’d appreciate it.

    Thanks

Sorry, though this seems to have a lot of similarity to the problems I’m having, it’s not my thread! Mine is Thread: Site Origin widget bundle stops Customizer working and my previous comments apply to that.

      Hi, I Work Here

      Hi mharvey

Thanks, I’ll grab your thread now.

I was the original poster of this thread. For me it turned out to be a memory issue with the hosting company that I was using. I migrated to a different hosting company that doesn’t have limited memory. The hosting company I was with refused to change the memory even with documentation that it was interfering with WordPress. Since moving to the new hosting company, the issue is resolved for me.

      Hi gungholady

Whoops, as you can see I confused the replies there. Thanks for reporting back, really glad to hear you were able to resolve.

      All the best.
