Custom 404 Error Page

Greetings!

I am looking for a custom-404 page plugin that is sanctioned to work with Vantage Premium. I could edit the 404.php page directly, but I don’t yet know how to use child themes, so any work I did to it would likely be lost upon the next theme upgrade. So, a plugin is best for me at this time.

Also, I’m looking for a broken page “tracker” – something that keeps track of the path people are following when they end up on the 404 page. That way, I can hunt down the broken links and fix them, or create redirects in my .htaccess file.

    Thanks for reaching out.

    I haven’t tested out any 404 page plugins. You might start your search here.

    If you’d like to dive into child themes, check out the basics here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes.

    Here is a starter child theme for Vantage: https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/vantage-child-starter.zip. You’d need to copy (not cut) the 404.php file from the parent and insert into the child. Intermedia level task so the plugin route definitely easier.

    If you’re using Google Analytics there are a host of posts on setting up Analytics to track 404’s.
