Please help, I tried to edit a plugin and it totally crashed my site. I contacted my hosting company and they said “We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. I have checked the website http://carmendeklerk.com/ and it shows the error is due to the theme ‘siteorigin-unwind’. You can reset the theme or use a different theme to resolve the issue. If you are unable to change the theme, please reply to this ticket with the confirmation so we can set the default theme for the WordPress from our end.”
I am still working on my site, and have not yet finished, so never backed anything up. I they reset my theme, I will loose all my work. Is there any way around it? I cant even load my wordpress account as the page just wont open
Hi Carmen,
Have you made any modifications to Unwind? Specifically by navigating to WP AdminAppearanceEditor? I ask as in the current version of Unwind there isn’t a line 303 for functions.php.
I would recommend getting your hosting provider to change the theme, then I would delete the theme and reinstall it. If you wish to add code to your website I would recommend using Code Snippets to do it safely – if there’s a mistake in the code it won’t run the code.
To clarify, no, your data is separate to the theme itself but please note that any direct edits to the theme will have been lost.
Thank you for the reply. I am very new to this, so i have no idea what you just said. I was trying to follow some instructions online to change a plugin, and I guess i failed.
If my hosting company resets my theme, will i loose all my work that I've done?
Hi Carmen,
Basically, you edited the theme directly which we don’t recommend you doing (this sort of error can happen and changes will be erased on theme update). I would get your hosting provider to change to a different theme or, ideally, reinstall Unwind.
No, your data is separate to the theme itself. Please note that any direct edits to the theme will have been lost.
Ok, thank you so much for your help!
Its fixed! Thanks
