When I insert a large image, and take out the text in the original layout, then the image height is reduces to just a sliver. I tried to play with various settings but no luck. How can I control the size of an image please?

By default, the size of the Hero widget is controlled by the contents of the Hero widget. You can set a custom height by opening the Design and Layout settings group and then set your desired Height. This Height is static so the hero widget won’t scale. You can set a mobile-specific height setting a set a Responsive Height.
Ideally, if you aren’t adding text on top of the slider you should use the SiteOrigin Slider widget as that widget scales based on the image height automatically.
