Continue Reading not showing on all excerpts?

3 years ago · Last reply by Andrew Misplon 3 years ago

Hi there,
I have chosen the Site Origin Blog Widget to show my latest posts on my homepage, and have the Post Excerpt Read More Link option checked. However, “Continue Reading” only displays under one of my post excerpts. Is there a reason it wouldn’t show under the other? I’d like it uniform.

Site: LiveMusicDiary.com you can see the two post excerpts on the homepage.

Hi, thanks for getting in touch.

We haven’t come across this situation. Is there anything different you can spot between the two posts? Does the first post perhaps have a manual excerpt inserted? That shouldn’t affect whether or not the link is added but any starting point to help us test locally will be great.

Nope, I’ve gone through every single drop down and check box and everything settings wise is exactly the same– neither have a manual excerpt. I even tried placing a manual Read More break just to see if that would trigger it and it hasn’t. However, when I *DO* add a manual excerpt, that will trigger the Continue Reading. When I remove it, it’s gone. I’d like to keep the excerpts a preview of the post though so am not interested in utilizing manual excerpts per se but will if no solution is found.

    Thanks for trying.

The manually entered read more quicktag will only be applied if the content setting is set to full.

Is there any change if you adjust the excerpt word count to approximately 50 more than it is now, save, and then set the excerpt word count back to whatever it is now?

Thanks– So it triggers when the excerpt hits 95 words. A little long for an excerpt though. When I switched back to 55 it disappeared again. I wonder if it has to do with hitting the bottom of the container, like at the bottom border of the image?

Thanks for running that test. Does the issue persist at 54 and 56 words?

Yep. Only 95+ will the continue reading show on that particular post for some reason.

Thanks; this is useful. Unfortunately, I’ve been unable to replicate the issue locally or on our demo server. I’ll escalate this and let you know as soon as I hear back.

    Hi

We’ve adjusted the way the excerpt count counts numbers. Please, give the below copy of the Widgets Bundle a try:

    https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/so-widgets-bundle.1.40.1-beta.zip

Once the ZIP file is on your desktop, you can install it from PluginsAdd NewUpload Plugin. Let us know how it goes.

    Thanks!
