Contact Form Error: Error sending email, please try again later.

8 years ago · Last reply by Alex S 8 years ago

The Contact Form worked fine for months, then a couple weeks ago, it started to display the error “Error sending email, please try again later.”

I’ve read through the other inquiries about this issue, and I have done the following:

1. Disabled all non-SiteOrigin plugins (only other one used is Events Calendar by Modern Tribe); cleared the cache.
2. Tried to submit the form in different browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox).
3. Disabled the ReCaptcha and Askimet filtering.
4. Changed the To and From emails for testing purposes.
5. Contacted my web hosting company who assures me that the mail is being sent. From the logs (x’d out email addresses for privacy):
[01-Feb-2018 19:50:04 UTC] mail() on [/home/edmon12/public_html/wp-includes/class-phpmailer.php:698]: To: [email protected] — Headers: Date: Thu, 1 Feb 2018 19:50:04 +0000 From: Dana Shadid Reply-To: Dana Shadid Message-ID: X-Mailer: PHPMailer 5.2.22 (https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8

I’m at a loss. Please let me know if there are any other troubleshooting methods to try. The form is here: http://edmonddemocraticwomen.org/about-edw/join-edw/

Thanks,
Jane

    Hi Prairied,

To confirm, have you checked your spam? Are you using either a Yahoo or exchange/outlook email? Have you sent the from email address to an [email protected] email (as in, the email that has the contact form on it)?

Would it be possible for you to send me an export for this widget? To do this please open up the page that contains the contact form in the editor and click the Layout button in the Page Builder toolbar. Then click import/export and then click download. Please upload the export to a 3rd party file hosting site such as teknik.io.

    Alex,

Yes I checked the spam folder. The default FROM email address is a domain email. I tried switching out both TO and FROM for testing using a variety of email addresses I have access to, and got the same results.

    The export is here:

    Thanks,

    Hi Prairied,

Thanks. The provided file works without issue for me.

To clarify, how is your website handling email? Is it through SMTP or from the server directly?

Our site is using PHP mail().

    Hi Prairied,

Are you able to receive other emails from your website?

  6. prairied 8 years, 10 days ago

We don’t have any other forms or instances of the email being used, other than standard contact info.

    Hi Prairied,

Are you able to receive other emails (as in, anything other than our contact form) sent from your website? Be it a login notification, an account notification, etc. We need to confirm you’re able to receive emails from your website in general.
