Compatibility Issue: Upgrading from page builder 2.4 to 2.6 breaks site

7 years ago · Last reply by Alex S 7 years ago

Hi. We have built our own custom widgets for use with page builder.

We’re using page builder 2.4.25.

If we update to page builder 2.5 or 2.6 our backend editor stops working.

Is there a guide I can follow to troubleshoot?

Thanks.

    Hi Insight,

The differences between 2.4 and 2.6 are really quite large. Are your widgets made using the standard WordPress widget functionality or via the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle framework? Is the code of your widget on GitHub or anything like that?

    Are your other plugins updated?

    Hi Alex,

    Thanks for your reply.

I need to clarify the issue – the backend still works, except for images are not saving when updating the page.

We make our widgets using the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle bundle I believe.

Here is one of our widgets: https://pastebin.com/v2dALmeG

    Hi Insight,

Thanks. Your widget is made using the standard WordPress Widgets API functionality rather than the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle Framework. A clear indication of this is the class doesn’t extend SiteOrigin_Widget, it includes WP_Widget. Unfortunately, as a result of this, we’re only able to provide limited assistance with this issue. I’ve had a look over your code and everything appears to be correct to us. To clarify, how is this widget being added? A plugin? Through the theme? I ask because I would like to replicate that setup as that’ll allow me to actually try the widget itself.

    Hi Alex,

    Okay.

The widget is being added through a page using the web builder interface.

    Regards,
    Steve

To clarify: through the page builder interface.

    Hi Insight,

Sorry, you misunderstood. I’m not asking how you added the widget itself to the page but instead, I’m asking how you’ve added the provided code to your website? Is it being added by a custom plugin? Your theme? I ask because right now the code itself doesn’t really give me the full picture.

    Oh okay.

    It’s part of the theme.

Would you like me to upload a copy of the theme for you?

    Hi Insight,

    Yes please.

    Hi Insight,

Thanks. I’ve looked at your theme and the previously provided Widget code is missing. This widget is being added via the theme, right? If so, where is the code located?

    Hi Alex,

Apologies, wrong theme. Try this one:
