Blog comment forms appear on single post pages. Let’s take a look at the Vantage theme demo as an example.
http://demo.siteorigin.com/vantage/blog/
On the Blog page listed above there are no comment forms, this is standard WordPress behaviour. However if we click over to a single post page:
we now see a comment form at the end of the post.
The best way of getting users from your Blog page over to the single post page is to use the more tag:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/
The more tag splits content adding a “Continue Reading” button on the Blog page. Users then click that button and continue reading the post on the single post page. At the end, they run into your comment form.
If you’re running our Vantage theme and would like to use the more tag, ensure you have Appearance > Theme Settings > Blog > Post Content set to Full Post.
Besides the Vantage specific setting above, this thread applies to all SiteOrigin themes.
I am a novice using WP so I am sure I am doing something wrong. I have tried the more tag and it works but it still isn’t showing the comments section so someone can leave a comment. Any suggestions? I have Vantage Premium.
Hi Billy
To activate or de-activate comments on a single post head to that post in WordPress, once editing the post click Screen Options top right and ensure Discussion is checked. Then scroll down to below the Visual Editor and ensure the Comments option is checked.
To check that comments are activated globally, head to Settings > Discussion and ensure that the Allow people to post comments on new articles option is checked.
Andrew,
Thanks so much. I did everything you mentioned and all is checked correctly now. However, the comments section is not showing up. On the post page, I can see comments listed. I added one as a test and it does show up. However, it shows my comment but underneath says comments closed. Not sure how to make it work. Here is the url. http://lesmchief.com/2015/01/31/my-first-blog-post/#more-29 I am obviously missing some simple setting.
No problem. Ok try this, head to Posts, the overview page in your WordPress admin, under each post title there is a quick edit link, click that and ensure that Allow Comments is checked.
Andrew,
You saved the day. It worked!!! Thanks.
Billy
Super, really glad to hear you made progress here.
All the best.
HI…sorry to bring this up again, but I have the same problem as Billy above. Using Vantage premium, I’ve done all of the above. Acivated and customised “Read More”, allowed comments on the page, globally allowed comments in Settings and ensured under Quick Edit that comments are checked. Site is here http://www.wbaird.com/blog.
Any help would be appreciated
