Changing pages and posts from PageBuilder to WordPress Block Editor

Hi Support Team,

all the information I could find on here was at least a year old, so I was wondering if there was a new development on the matter of turning pages and posts that have been created with Page Builder into plain WordPress content that only involves the Block Editor?

Most of my website is by now based on pages created only with the Gutenberg/Block Editor. Only some pages and blog posts are still based on SiteOrigin Page Builder combined with the Widgets Bundle. Since I’m no longer using eiher to create new content I’m thinking about eliminating both plugins – they were a great help for me when I fist started with my website a couple of years back, but I think I should ‘slim down’ and do a little spring cleaning on my site ;).

What I’ve gathered so far is that I would have to re-create the old page/post afresh using the Block Editor, free up the permalink by deleting the old Page Builder Version (including trash) and then basically have a new version of this page or post under the same URL.

However, in the case of blog posts, this will automatically mean that these come up as new posts, even if the content is older. This is the main reason why I was hoping there might be a new development that would allow me to keep the original page and publishing date, but get the content into Block Editor format…?

I have checked the Page Builder Settings and found two options within the “Contents” section, Copy Content and Copy Styles. Would this be my solution – check both boxes and deactivate Page Builder and the Widgets – could it be that simple? I doubt it… ;)

And exporting the layout and importing it on a fresh page/post will only work in combination with a Page Builder Block, right?

Thanks in advance for you help.

    Hi Tini

    Thanks for reaching out :)

In order to maintain user’s data and formatting, if Page Builder data is detected in the Classic Editor format, the Classic Editor is maintained. If you click the Revert to Editor button and save the page, the page will load in the Block Editor.

And exporting the layout and importing it on a fresh page/post will only work in combination with a Page Builder Block, right?

Yes, that procedure is for migrating a Page Builder layout from the Classic Editor to a SiteOrigin Layout Block.

Thank you Andrew, that’s that solved very nicely :) Turns out I had already been half way there and on the right track by Reverting to Editor, just not saved it…
