Can I add excerpt field on posts?

Hello
Finally found a good reference on earlier thread for customizing the grid loop excerpt length – but was wondering if there was a way to have more control by showing a custom excerpt – then noticed there is no excerpt field in the standard post in Vantage.
I have Vantage premium.
Is there a way to add this back into the post editor screen?
If I do how to I then alter the grid code to show either the excerpt or the line length?
In terms of the excerpt settings – I looked in original css and got that the Xem is line length…how do I set a character length? (the example I’d found was to set it back to WP default).

Thanks! and Thanks for such an awesome and affordable theme – I’ve used it on a several sites for myself and a few clients and about to buy it for another one.

Katherine

    Hi Katherine

    Thanks for reaching out.

Edit any post, click Screen Options top right and enable the Excerpt checkbox to make the field visible. If a custom excerpt is inserted, it should be shown in place of the auto excerpt.

Did you find a previous thread where I detailed setting the length of the excerpt in the grid loop?

If you want to change the auto excerpt length from its default of 55 you can use the following child theme:

    https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/vantage-child-custom-excerpt-length.zip

Install from Appearance > Themes > Add New: Upload Theme.
It’s normal for a child theme activation to reset the Customizer and menu location settings. Those need to be re-saved if you want to use the child theme.

At Appearance > Editor you can then edit functions.php and change the value that’s currenly “10”. That’s the new word count. This is an intermediate level task, even a small mistake in functions.php will cause your site to whitescreen. Just change the value 10 to your new value and it’ll go fine.
