Aria for icon fonts

Hi there,

We’re using the circle icon widget, but since the icons are links, screenreaders try to read them, and can’t. I’d like to put in an aria-label or aria-hidden attribute, but I’m not finding a good way to do that. It seems that the circle icon widget isn’t in the widget bundle, but is part of the Vantage theme. Any suggestions on how to handle this, or how to have it considered for the next version of Vantage?

Thanks!
Karen

    Hi Karen,

Unfortunately, this isn’t currently possible without a fair amount of custom coding. This widget This is beyond the scope of what we can help you with on our forums, but you could hire a developer to implement this for you.

The Circle icon widget is a legacy widget and it’s been replaced by the SiteOrigin Features widget. That widget doesn’t do this either, but I’ve submitted a request for this and it should hopefully be possible in the next SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle update.

We recommend using Codeable. You’ll be able to hire someone at an hourly rate to do this work for you.

That’s useful — we’ll encourage our users to move over to the SiteOrigin Features widget in anticipation of the next update having more accessibility features. Thanks!
