Hello!

I think I’ve got myself into a sticky widget. I’ve read through the docs and archives, can’t find a solution.

Since a couple of days, I am trying to work with SiteOrigins’ PageBuilder in the Vantage theme. The site has been built mostly. There are some textual changes necessary in the Front Page. There is some custom (css) code to make it a special site (the red/grey blocks).

Now, it appears that the Home Page is empty in admin Apperance. Before that happened, I changed text in the widget there, but that didn’t get visible (after setting Customize > Front page: a front page).

I created 2 extra instances of the front page to play around with and leave the original alone. So far, I am able to roll back to the original front page.

In ergo:
Or the page with the changes *is* shown and the customized styles are *not* applied.
Or the page does *not* show the updated text and the customized styles *is* applied (current situation).
And on top of that Appearance > Home Page is empty… I am afraid the customized markup will be gone too.

Any help is appreciated!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Dirk

Thanks for trying to explain this. I’m unfortunately not quite with you but lets start with some basics. If Page Builder is mis-behaving we like to start by:

    1. Checking that Page Builder and WordPress are up to date. Check Dashboard > Updates.
    2. Check for any plugin conflicts. Temporarily de-activate all non-SiteOrigin plugins and re-check the problem.

Can you perhaps let us know how you come along with the above?

    Hiya Andrew,

Thank you for responding to my message.

    I followed your steps:
    1. I’m keen on having the platforms I work on, updated It was the first thing I did when I got involved.
    2. All plugins disabled, except for Page Builder and Meta Slider.

The website looks as intended (but not the updated text) and misses of course some plugin elements. The customized css markup shows up correct. In the backend, the “Home Page” in Appearances still does not show any widgets. Ok, so how does the front page know what to show?

When opening the current Front Page (in Customize), this one named Hello World:
    – has a permalink to the main site address
    – template is Home Page
    – opening Page Builder:
    * does not show any widget of which the page is built up on
    * history is empty but shows the front page as intended
    * live view shows the actual front page (with the old text)

Do I have to re-create the front page, in the Home Page with adding the widgets and go from there? Or is there a way to work from the existing pages? Because before it seemed not to be picking up any changes I’ve made to the Home Page widgets’ textual updates. Or it did and I would lose customized markup.

Guess this is still vague but hope some bell rings :)

    Update.

Been playing around a little (set back a revision for another page, used as front page before). Now the Home Page in Appearances shows the widgets again. Changed the text that needed to change. Text shows, custom markup is gone.

    Narrowing down!

On Home Page, when the button ON/OFF is turned ON, the updated content is used but the markup is gone (the red/gray boxes).

    is was messed up, because:

    1. i removed old revisions and cleaned out the database (with a plugin) a little to rigorously?
    2. there is more than 1 “home page” created; combined with Page Attributes/Template/Home Template

    But since:
    3. after saving the Front page in Customize, the button Custom Home Page need to be set to ON again
    4. setting the button at 3 makes the custom circle icon’s markup go bad

    Solved!

There was a “Child Theme” customized (this red/gray blocks for the circle icons) and hardcoded-text in there!!

Thanks for having a place for sparring :)
