Animate Fade-In Flashes Image before disappearing and fading in

I love how easy the Animation add-on is to use, but I have an issue that I can’t resolve.

I like the fade-in effect, but on page load the image blinks at full opacity before disappearing and fading in.

These are smallish images (150 to 300k).

I’ve used Animate successfully on a similarly designed wordpress site with great success — no blinking/flashing. I’ve tried deactivating plugins. I’ve did a test on a blank page with just the image on it. The images still flashes, disappears, and then fades in.

Any thoughts?
