All of my homepage widgets were deleted when I made a text change, and now it doesn’t work at all

I recently tried to update a text field in one the widgets on my home page. Once I saved the change and saved the homepage, all my widgets were deleted and now my homepage is down. I tried to start rebuilding it, thinking perhaps something irrevocable had changed either on your end or through wordpress, but now it doesn’t function at all. When I try to add a widget and save it, some other widget appears and tells me I have to download something else to use it. Additionally, I can’t paste into any of the image widget’s url fields, so even if they were working I would have to hand enter them.

I’m really frustrated, and wouldn’t expect this from a theme I’ve paid for, and one that’s worked so well up until now. Please help me get this fixed so I can get my website up and running again.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Direheartbeat

Very sorry to hear about this. If you have revisions enabled (they’re enabled in WordPress by default), then you’ll be able to restore an older version of your page with all the content in place.

As for what caused the issue. Unfortunately with the nature of WordPress plugins, it’s very easy for other plugins to interfere with the operation of Page Builder. An error in the code of another plugin can break Page Builder. It can be difficult to see which plugin is actually causing the issue, but my suggestion would be to disable any plugins that you’ve added or updated recently.

If you’re able to see any Javascript issues, you can post them here and that might point to which plugin is actually causing the issue.

I’ve disabled all the plugins I’ve added since the last time I edited the widgets and it isn’t making any difference. All the issues are in the Home Page editor.

If I add widget and save my home page it converts the widget into a “Visual Editor”. I created an image, and I can see it on the page, but the “Visual Editor” widget doesn’t contain any data.

If I add a second widget to the main page and save it, it deletes everything I’ve created.

I have v2.1.4 of the page builder, and 4.2.3 of WordPress.

Is there anything else you can do? As it stands this theme is unusable, as is my website.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Direheartbeat

Were you able to check for any Javascript errors? Are there any errors coming up?

Something else you can try is performing a full plugin conflict check. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

I don’t know how to check for javascript errors, unfortunately.

After disabling all other plugins it no longer deletes everything I create after saving the main page, however it still converts them into empty and unuseable “Visual Editor” items.

After adding plugins back it appears that UPME (User Profiles Made Easy) is the cause of the everything getting deleted. However, even without them (and their plugin is essential for my site) the theme is unusable due to the other errors.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Direheartbeat

Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:

    [email protected]

Just navigate to Users > Add New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and [email protected] for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the “Send Password” field so we receive the details.

Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.

I will create the account. It certainly goes without saying, but please be careful.

Were you able to access the account, and have you had a chance to take a look?

    Hi Direheartbeat

We haven’t received the login details on our side, can you try resending them to [email protected], or posting them here as a private message?

  9. 9 years, 1 month ago direheartbeat

I’ve created it again, and tried to send it as I created it. Let me know if you’re still having trouble.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi @direheartbeat

Sorry to hear about the hassle.

I jumped in now and took a look. Unfortunately, revisions aren’t activated. This means that there is no easy way to roll back your home page content from within WordPress. Please, reach out to your hosting company and ask if they can assist. Most hosts keep backups so hopefully they can roll your site back.

Home page functionality does seem to be ok now. I can add and save widgets.

We aren’t quite sure what the cause of this was. Please, ask your hosts if they can enable WordPress revisions.

If you are hosts can roll your site back, we could then login again and take a look at the problem before it occurred.

Apologies for the hassle. Let us know how you come along.

I appreciate you taking a look at this, but I’m still having issues.

The widgets are no longer being deleted after adding and saving the second one, but my “Image” widgets are still being converted to “Visual Editors” after saving them in a “row”. The images will show up on the screen, but if I open the Visual Editor none of the the information is there and I can’t edit it. Instead, it just says this:

“You need to install Black Studio TinyMCE to use the widget WP_Widget_Black_Studio_TinyMCE.”

Could you possibly take another look? Though I can likely get my site back to where it was, not being able to edit the widgets is a huge encumbrance for me, and this functionality was what drew me to your theme originally.

    Hi, I Work Here

The Gallery (PB) legacy widget does now shift content over to the Visual Editor widget. I’ve installed Black Studio TinyMCE for you. That’s the plugin that powers the Visual Editor widget.

I’ve also installed the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle. That’ll give you access to all our new widgets. They all have a blue icon when adding via Page Builder. You can control which widgets are ON/OFF from Settings > SiteOrigin Widgets.

Please, try again and let us know how it goes.

I’m really worried something very bad has happened after you guys looked at the site. I can’t log in any more, no one can, and before I restarted my browser I couldn’t access any of the media. Any idea of what could have happened or how I can go about fixing it. I just seem to be sliding downhill through this whole process.

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for the update. This is a new development. I was activate on your site. Logged out. All was well.

That’s a white screen error. Here is how to recover:

This particular error usually isn’t as bad as it seems.

I was able to resolve the login issue after some deep digging and work. I’ll let you know how it goes from here.

    Hi, I Work Here

Glad to hear you made progress on that front. Let us know how things progress.

  20. 9 years, 1 month ago direheartbeat

It looks like everything is working correctly again.

As a note, the Price Box still doesn’t work correctly. Everytime I edit the home page I have to go into this control and add a “\” to make the “n” a “\n” so each line works correctly. It seems like it should always just show the asterisks in the text box and not replace it with this string.

Thanks for all your help, it’s much appreciated.

    Hi, I Work Here

Super, really glad to hear you were able to restore.

With regards to the Price Box issue. Are all plugins up to date?
