All data disappeared

Hi,

All the data I had on the layout builder of my front page disappeared after I changed two widgets from one column to the next. I get nothing now, not even the structure. Is there any way to get this back? How to avoid that this happens again?

I’m using the Optimizer theme and my version of Page Builder is 2.4.6.

    Hi Pedro

Sorry to hear about this. I’m not quite sure what happened. If you have revisions enabled you can try rolling back. Go to Pages > edit the page concerned, click Screen Options top right, enable Revisions, try restoring.

Was your entire home page layout in a single Layout Builder widget?

    Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, all was on one Layout Builder Widget.

As for the revisions, I could do that for all pages except for the front page (where the problem lies), which is not visible on the Pages, but only inside the theme personalisation, that doesn't show the revision.
Do you know any way to acces it?

    Hi, I Work Here

Unfortunately, I don’t believe that revisions exist for that field. If it’s a theme option it means it’s a field in the theme options database table. Unless the theme authors have specifically created revisions for this field, WordPress won’t revisions for it.

Depending on how much work you’ve done on the site today, another option might be to ask your hosting company to roll the site back to a backup which lots of hosting companies keep. This will depend on when their latest backup was vs how much work you’ve done since then.

One idea for creating backups for this field in the future would be to create new privately published page. Build your home page in this page in the Page Builder tab. Then, for your home page, insert a Layout Builder, click the Prebuilt button and clone your privately published home page. It’s a two step process, make changes to Pages > Home Page Private and then go to the theme field and clone the page. It’s one way that I can think of to have page revisions for your home page.

    Hi, I Work Here

We have several layers of protection built into Page Builder to prevent the kind of situation you’ve just experienced. Apologies for the hassle. It’s possible several factors came together at one time to make this happen. Without recreating the environment exactly it’s very hard to say what happened. Wish I had more.

It's the third time it happens on this site. We have a couple of other sites where this backup works fine. The first two times were not serious, as we were starting, but on this one we've lost quite a bit and the backup failed.

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks. So to confirm, your Layout Builder is inserted at AppearanceCustomizeFront PageFront Page Widgets?

    Yes.

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for confirming. I’ll log a bug report now so that our developers can investigate the matter further. Until we’ve sorted this problem out, my cloning idea earlier, would be a good way to backup your home page.

Yes, thanks, we are doing daily backups now.

    Hi, I Work Here

Super, thanks. Hopefully, my Layout Builder clone page idea made sense, if not, please, let me know and explain again.
