Adding widgets from external source

I have been provisioned to add widgets from a 3rd party, but I don’t know how to configure them on my site. The code they give me doesn’t do anything. Is there anything I need to do to make the widgets functional?

The source is here: http://www.wxc.com/widgets/1.0/gettingstarted.html
You can see the widget format used. I have included the required script elements to the head.

I have the Vantage theme.

Thanks!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Chris

Please remember to use a child theme when including the script tag. Alternatively a plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/header-and-footer-scripts/ can be used to include your script.

Once your script is included you could include the widget code using a Text widget. If that doesn’t work you could try including that code in a the Text view of a regular post or page and see if there any difference.

Do you know if anyone has tested this service with WordPress?

And to confirm, you’ve taken care of the domain approval process they mention?

    Andrew,

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I am paying them for a subscription and my domain has been provisioned. I do use the header/footer script plugin. I’ve been using that for a while and is very helpful. I will show you the test page I have created.

Note: the data displayed on the page are showing up because they are in an iFrame. The actual widget code is sectioned off in the source (and the widgets should be displaying below the line on the page, but they aren’t. I would rather not use iFrames, and I want to use their widgets as provisioned.

    Andrew,

I do see the widgets showing up on my mobile, but not my computer. I am not sure why. Also, if you have any tips for enabling their search box (so that it can access their zipcode/city database), that would be helpful. Do I need to change anything in searchform.php file or use a special plugin? I see the search box (iFrame) showing up, but it isn’t functional.

    Thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for the effort here. The widgets display on my computer if I exclude your domain from my Chrome Ad Blocker extension. In Safari they display right away for me, I’m not running Ad Blocker there.

There is only so much we can do in terms of responsive because the widgets are outputting an inline style fixed width. For the smaller widgets, putting them in a single Page Builder column should help them break at mobile. Unless I’m looking at a single widget below the horizontal rule.

Thanks Andrew. The ad blocker explains why I am unable to see the widgets in my browser. I can see the iFrames just fine and I may be stuck with using them until I can switch to their direct XML feed. Do you have any suggestions for making the search box functional? It’s showing up in the iFrame section, but isn’t functional… the script is in my source? If it’s not an issue with my theme/php, I can look into general coding errors on my end.

    I appreciate all your help.

    Hi, I Work Here

Ahh right, sorry I missed that. Please won’t you quickly check a search widget for me. Insert a search widget into the sidebar or footer area and see if that’s getting a different result. That’ll let us know if the header search is the problem.
