Add Live Editor button to admin toolbar or to theme file?

The live editor is a really great feature… but I would love to put a link to it in a more obvious spot. Such as in the admin toolbar while you’re viewing a page. Or I could add some custom code to my them that adds a live editor button to each page when you’re logged in.

Do you all know of a easy way to do that?

Thanks!

    Hi Jamesrice,

Unfortunately, this isn’t possible without some custom coding. I’ve marked this thread as a feature request. We often look through these threads to get ideas for what to add in our future updates. Hopefully, we’ll be able to add this in a future update.

If you need this urgently, you could always post a job on Codeable.

    Thanks, Alex.

While I don’t know 100% of the innards of WordPress… I am a developer, so I might be able to do it.

I assume it’s not as simple as calling some js function?

On the page edit page there appeared to be some hidden markup that was used as well… so I assumed it would probably need a more in-depth solution.

    Thanks

    Hi Jamesrice,

This codex should give you a good idea how to do it if you’re familiar with PHP.

    Thanks again, Alex.

Yes, I know PHP, but I am less concered with the admin bar… and more concerned with how to make a link launch the live editor. It need not necessarily be in the admin bar.

Are you aware of a straightforward way to launch the editor for a given page from the front-end? Or it is more complex than that? I realize it may rely on other markup and js that is only present on the dashboard pages…

    Hi Jamesrice,

I’m currently not aware of any straightforward way to launch the editor. Sorry mate. :( I’m definitely going to bring this up with the development team, though.

Cool. Thanks for the quick replies.

I think it would be a great thing to add since the nice editor already exists. I have seen similar questions posted previously as well. Seems like it should be pretty easy for someone who has existing familiarity with the code.
