    Hi Tom

    Please try this out.

    1. Go to Appearance > Widgets and look for the Header area.
    2. Add Layout Builder to it and open it.
    3. From there you can add to rows, one on top of the other. You can use the one on top to place your banner and the other your logo and social media icons

Try that out and let me know the outcome

    Cheers

    Hi Addo,

I’m afraid that hasn’t worked. It covers my site logo. Also, because the menu seems to be fixed, the social media icons appear underneath it. It doesn’t push the page down to achieve extra room above the menu.

    Can you advise?

    Thanks!

    Hi Tom

Apologies for the big delay here.

It’s unfortunately not possible to add a banner above the header without custom coding. The default locations for this would be the header widget area which you’re currently using for social media icons. One option might be to move those icons in your menu using the Menu Icons plugin:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/menu-icons/

That would free your header space up to display a banner.

    Hi Andrew,

Unfortunately that would move my menu over two lines and spoil the look. It would also remove my logo from above the menu.

Can you advise what the custom code would be and where I’d need to place it?

    Thanks,

    Tom

It’s possible to add a image to the header widget area without overlap or losing the logo. Here is a very quick mockup using the Visual Editor widget to add the image.

If you’d like to expand the header to fill 100% of your screen width go to Appearance > Custom CSS, click Snippets top left and search for “Full Width Layout: Expand Header Content to 100%”

Adding a banner above the header is unfortunately a custom development task. If it’s something you’d like to get done we can recommend the developers at https://codeable.io.
