400 bad request and blank screen when opening Widget Settings

Hi Greg and the rest of the awesome SO team,

We’ve received a support request from our client and I believe it’s an appropriate one to escalate it to you.

When she tries to open widget settings of the Visual Editor (Widgets Bundle) there’s a blank screen – screenshot.

In console, she gets the 400 bad request – screenshot

Do you know what the issue could be out of your head? If necessary, I can provide more details privately.

Here is a copy of the full support request I’ve received:

Hi there. I wanted to install Flow flow, a plug-in for social media. This caused a conflict with pagebuilder plug-in. When I contacted the flow flow developers (Looks Awesome support), they have figured out that the issue was actually caused by The SiteOrigin Widgets. Which adds additional tags via visual editor. This thing breaks shortcodes. So they and I tried to disable it, but the menu never shows up. Not even when i disable all plug-ins but the siteorigins ones. See screenshots. I have also made a screenshot of what the error is that you can see when I try to open the dialogbox in the widget. Help please. :)

Thanks!

    Hi Primož,

I suspect the server is rejecting the request by us (we fetch the widget contents when the widget is opened rather than loading it all at once) due to the contents of the widget.

Would it be possible for you to send me an export for the pictured widget? To do this open up the page with the widget and click Layout button in the Page Builder toolbar. Then click import/export and then click download. Please upload the export to a 3rd party file hosting site such as teknik.io.

Also, to confirm, you’re using the SiteOrigin Editor, right? If not, can you please clarify what widget you’re using and please try replicating this issue with the SiteOrigin Editor widget.

By the way, as you’re a premium user, you’re entitled to priority email support. If you would like to make use of that, please follow the instructions found on your Page: Dashboard (please refer to the support tab). Hi Alex,

Thanks for coming back to me but I am not sure if we’re on the same page. The blank screen shows up on the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle settings page. The one available at /wp-admin/plugins.php?page=so-widgets-plugins

It’s the same for all widgets not only the Editor Widget, the settings page is empty.

    Hi Primož,

Is the pictured website hosted on a window server? If so, currently windows servers aren’t able to display the widget settings.

    Hi Alex,

How come that you don’t support Window servers? That must be a bug then because to me it doesn’t sound too complicated to do an AJAX request to fetch some something from the backend?

    Hi Primož,

Sorry, I wasn’t clear – this is a bug. This issue is due to how Linux and Windows handle paths differently and it should hopefully be fixed shortly.
