Hi, is it possible to change the background color in the sidebar or even add a border between the content and the sidebar? I would like to do this to all my pages in the Vantage Theme. Thanks!

This theme [Vantage] says it is compatible with WooCommerce. First, this is the first time I have used WordPress. The Vantage Theme really helped to learn how to design a site quickly. My only issue, when I try to add something to the side bar it does not show up. What do the settings need to be to enable the sidebar.

I have used the Edit CSS feature with Vantage Free. Along the way as I have been teaching myself how to do this, I have come across cautions about losing my changes if the theme gets updated. Do I need to be creating a child theme or is the Edit CSS preserved during upgrades?
