Where do code additions get saved?

I’m enjoying your Page Builder and Widgets Bundle plug-ins so far.

If I use your editor widget to add a shortcode to one or more pages, does that code addition get saved in the theme files or somewhere else?
I’m asking because I’m told that if code gets inserted into theme files, then a child-theme first is the safe way to build.
Sorry if this is a dumb question as I am new to WordPress and I am not a designer nor do I have coding skill.
Thanks.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Lance,

No modifications are made to your theme directory so you do not require a child theme to use any of our plugins.
Any text you add using SiteOrigin Page Builder is stored in the database. The shortcode is stored as is ([example]) and is only rendered on output.

    Does that make sense?

Thanks so much for your reply, Alex. YES, I think I get it. Any code embeds or i-frames that I add to my site through your plug-ins … are stored in my SQL / Maria dbase … in separate folders from where the theme files are stored. Thus, it will all be safe when the theme does an update. Correct?

Relatedly, do I need a child-theme to protect all of my content against updates to your plug-ins?
Or, for when WP updates its core with a new version?

    Thanks again.

You do not require a child theme unless you’re specifically making changes to the theme you’re using.
