When will it make thumbnails automatically?

Hi, I like the theme but creating and uploading an image for each video makes it unusable for me. I think you wrote 10 months ago that you would work on it.
Will you make it within few weeks? I guess I will ask a refund otherwise.

I am talking particularly about Youtube videos.

    Hi Jan

    Thanks for running Focus.

This feature has unfortunately not yet been added to the theme. All suggestions are considered and then weighted according to popularity. At this stage I can’t say when or if this feature will be added to the theme.

You might consider this plugin: http://wordpress.org/plugins/video-thumbnails/. I haven’t tested it myself but a client let me know earlier this year that it was working well for him.

    Thank you for the tip.
In the plugin options I need to fill in the name of the custom field where my embed code or video URL is stored. When it is blank it searches only in the main textarea. When I fill in focus_video[public][external] or focus_video[premium][external] it finds nothing. When I fill in only focus_video, it will throw a PHP error, that I have given an array.
Can you please help me with what to fill in?

I’m afraid I haven’t run the plugin at this stage. For specific assistance with this plugin it would be best to open a thread on the plugin support page.

Hi Gwidion. I had a chance to look into this now. I haven’t resolved the custom field yet. I’ll re-look at it tomorrow and come back to you ASAP.

We need to do this a little differently because Focus stores the video url in an array. So under Settings > Video Thumbnails > Custom Field enter any name, something like video_url. Then go to your post, click Screen Options and check the Custom Fields checkbox. Scroll down, create a new Custom Field called video_url, basically the same name we entered earlier and enter your video url in the Value field.

Following that you might have to run Tools > Bulk Video Thumbs.

In summary; yes, you do unfortunately need the enter the url twice, once in the Focus Video field and again in the custom field.
