Video Slider Question – Influence Pro Theme

Hello friends, thanks for helping me with this!

I placed my self-hosted background video URL into the slider page, and it works great. Devices don’t display slider videos, so I read that I should also add a background photo so that the viewer has something to look at when video is not supported in their browser of choice.

When I upload a JPEG to the Background Image section of the slider page, and still having the video URL where it is supposed to be, the video then does not become visible anywhere, just the still photo. (btw the still photo behaves the way it should, and looks great).

If I remove the still photo background, the video comes back into view on my desktop browsers. I realize I am making a mistake somewhere, as it seems that I can only get one or the other, and not both.

Here is the website:
http://jerusalemphotoworkshop.com

At this point when you click on my URL, you will see a static image of Jerusalem set as my background image, but you won’t see my video slider, which is active (at least within the slider page of my SiteOrigin plugin).

Thank you so much for helping me with this! I appreciate it.

Sincerely,
Mark Hemmings

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mark

Thanks for running our newest theme, your feedback really is appreciated.

I don’t believe the widget currently has an image fallback capability. I’ll bring this up with Greg, hopefully it’s something he’d like to introduce soon.

For now, remove the image so I can see the video running, I’ll then see if I can’t help with fallback using CSS.

    Thanks again.

Thank you Andrew, I appreciate the help!
I just removed the Background Image (JPEG) which left the self-hosted .mp4 video file as what is currently (and successfully) rolling on my slider.

    Here is the webpage URL:

    http://jerusalemphotoworkshop.com

    Much obliged!
    Mark

    Hi, I Work Here

Sorry Mark, I’m a little behind on this launch so playing catch up now. The slider widget does handle a fallback by utilising the background image inserted on a slide. Can you perhaps send me set of temporary login details to [email protected] (with a link referencing this thread) and I’ll take a look shortly.

I am having the same issue. When I have an image uploaded, the video doesn’t show. When I take the image out, the video works great.

Did you find out how to fix this?

I’ll also send a set of temp login details to [email protected]

(I hope you don’t mind me jumping on this thread – it was exactly the same issue I’m having!).

    thanks

      Hi Tess

Thanks for running Influence. Please ensure you’ve upgraded to Influence Plus 1.0.1 and Influence 1.0.4. This problem has been resolved.

Hi Andrew, sorry if I bother you on the same problem, but the video fallback image for me doesn’t work. When I put a background image, the video doesn’t start anymore. I have Influence 1.1, but don’t know what plus version (I subscribed and installed plus).
        Can you help me please?
        Thank you very much.

          Hi, I Work Here

Update: The issue was resolved earlier this year but unfortunately hasn’t yet been pushed. If you’re interested in the nerd of it all, this is the fix:

          https://github.com/siteorigin/so-widgets-bundle/commit/bbf38a7e8a3a48c8f2a8c6dab09c71beeb567fb5

I’m not sure why but it didn’t make it into the Widget Bundle plugin 1.1.2 release. Braam let me know now that it’ll be in 1.1.3. Apologies for the delay here.

Thank you very much Andrew, I’ll take a look to the nerd part!

Could you help me if I added siteorigion slider to the left sidebar on my site. But I just added the URL and added the destination of the link. After saving the changes nothing appears on the site. What do I do wrong? Thank you.
