Vantage Theme Menu

By Magus, 9 years ago. Last reply by Andrew Misplon, 9 years ago.

Hi

I would like to change the layout of the menu dropdowns so that instead of the items being listed vertically they are listed horizontally across a full width panel. What part of the css would I need to edit for the dropdown width, and what function for the menu population?

I am already running a child theme which has survived platform and theme updates.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Magus

    Thanks for running Vantage.

Please remember to use your the style.css file in your child theme for inserting edited selectors. Sounds like you’re on top of that though.

This is unfortunately something I’ve taken a look at in the past and haven’t resolved. From a support perspective we can assist with quick edits and regularly do so. This is one of those items that would need to be a feature request: https://siteorigin.com/suggest-feature/. In the event you’d like to find developer assistance we recommend: codeable.io.

If you’d like to take a look at the challenge on your side and don’t already use your developer tool to inspect CSS, please see our tutorial here: https://siteorigin.com/basics/modifying-theme-design-with-custom-css/. That’s a bit easier than combing through the parent stylesheet.

Sorry we don’t have more on this.

    Hi Andrew

Thanks for the reply. I use the F12 developer in IE 11 to view css elements for the site but I am using the site custom CSS rather than the child theme style.css (it wasn’t picking up changes in that file for some reason).

I’ll add a feature request to try and get this implemented as I have tried various changes but cannot get the dropdown width to use the 100% option (this actually shrinks the dropdown width).

So far the only changes I have made were to counteract discrepancies between plugins and to change the masthead layout to allow logo and tagline.

    Hi, I Work Here

Sounds like you’re on top of the custom development. Custom CSS might be entered into the head at a different point that your child stylesheet so perhaps it was just specificity that was the cause of selectors not taking effect in your child stylesheet.

    http://css-tricks.com/specifics-on-css-specificity/

You can use !important to get around that sometimes: http://css-tricks.com/when-using-important-is-the-right-choice/

But Appearance > Custom CSS is also an easy place to manage CSS.

Thanks for suggesting the menu change as a feature.
