Vantage Theme and Featured Images

I am using the vantage theme on my blog nimifab.com and i am having lots of trouble setting it up. I am not using page builder as i want my posts on the front page.
I wanted to use the grid layout,but the images previews were not in identical size squares/rectangles in the excerpt. I switched to circle icons and now at least all are the same size,but there are gaps in the post arrangement. places where there should be a post but the spot is blank.
To worsen things,since i had to set featured images to the posts for this to work, I now have overblown images at the top of every post in my blog.
Safe to say this theme is getting very annoying by the minute.
I do not know what a child theme is,as that seems to be the solution to at least some of my issues from a search i did through the forums,and I am not adept at coding websites so please bear that in mind as you respond.
Regards,Allan

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Allan

    Thanks for running Vantage. Sorry to hear you’ve been running into problems.

    To resolve the different featured image sizes in the grid layout please try running this plugin: http://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/.

    If you want to stick with the Circle Icon loop try adding the following to a Custom CSS module like the one included with Jetpack (http://jetpack.me/support/custom-css/) or to Appearance > Custom CSS if you’re running Vantage Premium:

    /* Circle Icon Widget - Loop */

    .vantage-circleicon-loop .widget_circleicon-widget {
    display: inline-block;
    float: none !important;
    vertical-align: top;
    }

    A child theme is only needed if you’d like to change the code in Vantage theme files. This is required here.

    Thank you for the reply.I will run the regeneration plugin.
    However,how do i switch off the featured image being displayed above every post?
    Lastly,my menu nav bar has created a second row for the option,”work with us”,how do i keep it as only one row without removing options?

    Hi, I Work Here

    You can turn off the featured image on the single post page by de-activating the setting at Appearance > Theme Settings > Blog > Featured Image.

    You can use Custom CSS to adjust the horizontal padding of your menu items:
