Vantage Premium: Skip Link to Navigation for Screen Reader Accessibility – Id?

By leslieg, 10 years ago. Last reply by Andrew Misplon, 9 years ago.

I am trying to configure an accessibility plugin to have a skiplink to the main navigation. I was able to find an id for the main content area – it was the same as standard WP themes like 2011, 2012, etc. But nothing I use for the navigation seems to work.

What is the ID for the main navigation container?

Also, please help me find my premium order number. The only thing I have is a receipt number and it doesn’t work in the field below.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi

    Here is the menu markup:

    <nav role="navigation" class="site-navigation main-navigation primary use-sticky-menu">

    There isn’t an ID in use there but you could use the class:

    .site-navigation

    Have you perhaps tried to retrieve your number via: https://siteorigin.com/orders/

    The plugin requires an ID – I tried the class. I was able to use the ID menu-test-custom-menu but that only works because it happens to be the name of the custom menu I’m using….will break as soon as i rename the custom menu or not use a custom menu.

    Would be awesome if themes could all use the same primary navigation container so that accessibility plugins could add skiplinks without having them break when switching themes or swapping out menus

    So, I found the div for the main navigation in parts/menu.php and in my dev system simply gave that div an id the same as what WordPress uses for their themes. (I know I can’t just change the theme but just wanted to test it out.)

    I already have a vantage child theme. Is it possible to add the parts/menu.php to the child theme and then just add this ID?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks for the update. Ok, I’m with you now.

    Sure, if you add a parts folder to your child theme and then into that add menu.php with your custom ID everything will be upgrade safe. Let me know if you need a hand with that.

    (We do base our themes off Underscores (http://underscores.me/), probably as close as you’ll find to a standardised code base for WordPress theme as the moment.)
