I am a beginner building a website on my Macbook using Flywheel Local. This website is not yet linked to any hosting platform. The intention is to use this website to replace an old site I built using Dreamweaver over 10 years ago during an evening class. After about a weeks enjoyable work I had a week off and several problems occurred after updating the version of Flywheel and trying to restart. The ‘Site Health’ shows two critical issues- both theme and plugins need updating. I am unable to update either the vantage theme or the site origin plugin, getting the message “Update Failed: Connection lost or the server is busy. Please try again later.” Later doesn’t make any difference.
There are also three recommended improvements. (1) I am using an older version of PHP (7.3.5)- exloring this further it is suggested that I upload a back up plugin before proceeding. Attempt to do so failed.
(2) The optional module, imagick, is not installed, or has been disabled. How to install or enable is not described.
The third recommendation is about security which i don’t think I need to address until i am ready to point this site to my domain name.
Apart from this updating any posts is hit or miss, I can not add any next items to the Menu and when trying to add text to a new posts I get the message “Unknown error. Failed to load the form. Please check your internet connection, contact your web site administrator, or try again later.”
Any assistance, in easy to understand words, would be appreciated.
Hi Dean
Thanks for reaching out.
I’m not sure it’s worth your time troubleshooting localhost updating issues unless you plan to work locally for some time. You can upgrade any theme or plugin by deleting it and then installing the update from PluginsAdd NewUpload Plugin or ThemesAdd NewUpload Theme. You can download the latest ZIP files off WordPress.org. For example https://wordpress.org/themes/vantage/.
PHP 7.3.5 is fine, I wouldn’t worry about that at the moment.
Unless you’re experiencing issues within the WordPress Media Library, you could also ignore the imagick warning. Alternatively, here is a discussion I found on the topic https://localbyflywheel.com/community/t/step-by-step-imagemagick-support-for-php-7/4375/1.
Thanks, I'll give that a try.
No problem, all the best with your project. As SiteOrigin questions arise, please, let us know.
