how can I get the icon to open in a new window it goes to the page I want it to but then I have to hit back tab to go back to site

This isn’t currently possible with the circle icon widget, but we do have a widget that’s part of our Widgets Bundle plugin called the Features Widget. This widget has a lot more features and functionality. One of the things it lets you do is open links in a new window.
