Thumbnail Regeneration

By Donald Kurz, 10 years ago. Last reply by Andrew Misplon, 10 years ago.

I tried the Thumbnail Regenerator as I was trying to resize the product and catalog images in the woocommerce plugin of my Vantage theme. After saving changes, it noticed the sizing was still the same, thus the reason we tried the regenerator. It screwed up all the images. I deleted the regenerator and deleted some of the images, in hopes that re uploading them would return them back to the normal cropped sizes, but no luck. How do I fix this issue?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Donald

Sorry to hear about this. Regen Thumbnails doesn’t usually cause issues, the plugin Simple Images Sizes is the powerful/dangerous one you usually need to be careful of.

Please re-check the sizes you have stated: http://docs.woothemes.com/document/using-the-appropriate-product-image-dimensions/. You can find the overall image dimensions at Settings > Media. Once you’ve confirmed those are correct my recommendation would be to re-run Regen Thumbnails. That plugin shouldn’t change the original images, only the thumbnails used.

Thanks, but I am still unsure how to fix this issue. The link you sent is helpful, but I just want to undo the mess that the Regen caused. I was not trying to resize the images, just the woo commerce settings shown in the link you sent. I thought in order for those changes to take affect, I had to implement the Regen plugin. The first thing I tried, was deleteing a products image and re uploading it, and its still blurry and to large, even after getting rid of the Regen plugin and going back to default settings in the commerce settings for thumbnails.

If possible please send through a link to a page concerned. Please also let me know what sizes you’ve used.

On the FEATURED PRODUCT widget at the bottom of this page is one example of the blurred images…http://www.knotcrazy.net/

Also in the shop, all the images have been resized to their actual size per the library, I guess. We were just trying to get the product image a little bigger and then used the Regen plugin and all went to heck.

Any help? How do I reset the thumbnails to their previous status. We just did’nt like that that the product image was cropped. We were trying to undo that when we used the Regen plugin and it screwed up all of our images.

Hi Donald, apologies for the delay there. Where you forced to re-add your images following running Regenerate Thumbnails?

Regenerate Thumbnails should be run in the event that you change your media sizes. So you can imagine, WordPress has thumbnails ready as stated in the media sizes, once you state new thumbnails sizes it then needs some kind of action to re-create those thumbs in the new dimensions. That plugin action shouldn’t affect the original images.

So not sure what else to suggest here. Ideally you’d setup your media image sizes as required and then run Regen to build those new sizes.
