Theme images control

Hi,

I have two questions:

===Q1===
What do below images refer to? (my website is ALL no sidebar. So only no-sidebar is relevant.) (those thumbnail size if not square, so I’m confused what they are for.)

vantage-thumbnail-mobile
vantage-thumbnail-no-sidebar-mobile
vantage-thumbnail-no-sidebar

===Q2===
I want to disable below images:

vantage-thumbnail-mobile
vantage-thumbnail-no-sidebar-mobile (after Q1 is answered, I’ll decide if I need to keep this.)
post-thumbnail
vantage-thumbnail-no-sidebar (after Q1 is answered, I’ll decide if I need to keep this.)
vantage-slide
vantage-carousel
vantage-grid-loop

I’m running vantage-child. Maybe I should add a function.php in vantage-child folder? If so, could you provide a function.php template for this image-disabling purpose?

Thank you for the help.

By the way, can I add my own image size? Example below.

    In Settings > Media :
700-width-pic Max Width ___ Max Height ___ (if I can set this up in function.php, it’ll be great)

PS. I tried to use Simple Image Sizes plugin, but it messed things up so I gave it up.

    Hi Dao Master

Those extra image sizes are used for the thumbnails in various situations. With the way WordPress works, we need to specify them all in the functions.php and make sure they’re all available for all situations. Is there any reason you want to remove these image sizes?

Unfortunately I can’t give any other suggestions for custom image sizes besides the Simple Image Sizes plugin – https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-image-sizes/

For both adding and removing custom image sizes, you could hire a developer to create a child theme for you that does this. If you want to go this route, I’d suggest using something like Codeable.

    Hi Greg,

    vantage-slide
    vantage-carousel
    vantage-grid-loop

Above are for SiteOrigin widgets bundle. And I don’t use them.

    post-thumbnail

Above I use other plugins to display post thumbnail for me. For example, I can select Medium size to display post thumbnail instead of SiteOrigin post-thumbnail.

    vantage-thumbnail-mobile
    vantage-thumbnail-no-sidebar-mobile
    vantage-thumbnail-no-sidebar

Above I don’t know how they are used. So I’m asking.

Because I’m going to use WP Retina 2X plugin and every image will get a sibling. It’s getting messy in the folders. So I want to remove unused image sizes.

If there’s a way to remove the image sizes I listed, uploads folder will get much cleaner.

http://adultrepdao.com is my website. It’s a very simple website. For all the thumbnails I use WordPress default sizes. So additional sizes are not needed UNLESS it’s responsive-related.

    Hi Dao

    Thanks for your feedback.

vantage-thumbnail-no-sidebar-mobile is used for the blog featured image when no sidebar is present.

vantage-thumbnail-no-sidebar-mobile is used for the blog featured image when no sidebar is present and a mobile device is used.

vantage-grid-loop is used when the blog layout: grid has been selected.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to deregister image sizes. It is possible, but, it’s a custom development task. Codeable are our recommended developers if you’d like to take a look at that option.
