Text aligns in a strange way in the output

Hi there,

I am using Vantage. Using the page builder I add rows then the text editor widget. I add paragraphs of text in there but in the output it ends up jumbled up with words chopped up and sentences cut off and continues in the next line. Could you help please?

    Hi Redrosesburning

    Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on? If you need to keep this URL private from other users, just select “Private Reply” on the bottom right of the comment box.

    Hi Andrew,

    Thanks for the prompt reply. I am afraid I haven’t published the website yet because I am still in the process of creating it. Could I send you screen shots? Or do you have any idea why the text editor scrambles the lines?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks for the update. Try running a plugin conflict test. Details to follow:

    Hi, I Work Here

    This sounds like it could be a plugin conflict issue. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

    Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

    Hi Andrew,

    Thanks for your reply. I disabled all non Site Origin plug ins, but still have to adjust the text by myself to make it align, even then, it doesn’t format in a normal way a paragraph falls. I have published my site, and you can see the way the paragraphs fall here.

    Let me know if you need log in details or anything else?

    Thank you!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Did you perhaps copy your content from another source. Perhaps Word or similar program? If so, here is how to correctly handle that process:

    Hi, I Work Here

    Sure :)

    Any URLS that you copy when viewing the WordPress admin won’t be accessible to anyone else.

    Please, go to Settings > Reading and check your settings. The static home page and posts page shouldn’t be set as the same. Check that isn’t happening.

  10. 9 years, 19 days ago redrosesburning

    That worked beautifully, thank you.

    Hope you don’t mind another question. The posts are now appearing. However, I liked the design of the -home page default- that I tweaked, with the posts being in row that people can click on to expand and read, with the other sections with a circle icon below the posts. Is there a way to do this?

    Hi, I Work Here

    There are two options in this regard:

    1. Appearance > Theme Settings > Blog > Blog Archive Layout: choose between the regular blog layout or grid or circle icon.

    2. Settings > Reading: Deselect the posts page. Ensure there is no page selected as your posts page.
    Go to Pages > Blog or whatever your blog page is.
    Click over to the Page Builder tab. Insert a Post Loop widget.
    Select the Carousel template in the Post Loop widget settings.

  12. 9 years, 19 days ago redrosesburning

    Thanks for the advice. I went with option two. There is now a carousel bar on the front page, and on the blog posts page as well, but the carousel remains empty, without linking to the seperate posts Ive made on the blog. Is there something I missed?

    :)

    Hi, I Work Here

    Edit the Post Loop widget and click the Build Posts Query button. The query you’ve constructed has no posts in it.

    Hi Andrew,

    I navigated to instructions as to how to work with the post carousel widget.

    the instructions on the 2nd option to disable the ‘posts’ page I did. I went to the blog page, added the post loop and selected carousel. under title – I added “new moon in leo….” which is the title of one of my posts in the blog, then went to post query…under posts types…I selected, all, or pages, or posts….I can’t seem to select to display on the carousel only the blog posts..under the posts in selection..it does not come up the seperate blog posts for me to select to put in the carousel. Could you give me some advice with this please?

    thank you.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Redrosesburning

    Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:

    [email protected]

    Just navigate to Users > Add New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and [email protected] for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the “Send Password” field so we receive the details.

    Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.

    Ok great, have done so. Thank you!

    Mmm, doesn’t seem like the email made its way through. Any chance you could post our password here using the “Private Reply” checkbox bottom right.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks :)

    If you start with the home page, if you edit the Post Loop widget, there is a little red circle with a number in it over the Build posts query button. Right now it says “0”. That means that the current query is returning no results.

    It doesn’t look like you have any posts saved. If you click on the “Posts” menu item in the main WordPress navigation you’ll see it’s empty. If you publish a post these Post Loop widgets should do their thing.

    Hi Andrew,

    I am a bit confused. with the earlier instructions…

    So I deselected the posts page. I thought I was supposed to post in the blog page. Now I have added posts, and they are appearing on the carousel. But when I try to click them to test the link, they said posts not found.

    Is it correct that I place the Postloop widget in the Blog page?
    What is the title that I should put in the title field?
    When I click on select posts in build posts query, nothing comes up.

    Thank you for your patience.

    Hi, I Work Here

    The carousel loop is excluded from Appearance > Theme Settings > Blog > Blog Archive Layout. So, as a result, we need to use the Post Loop widget to select it.

    Is it correct that I place the Postloop widget in the Blog page?

    Perfect.

    What is the title that I should put in the title field?

    Optional. No title necessary.

    When I click on select posts in build posts query, nothing comes up.

    Do you need to build a query or do you just want to select all posts?

    Other:

    To get images showing: http://www.spiritstarastrology.com/blog, just add a featured image to each post:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/

    Hi Andrew,

    I’m afraid I still don’t understand what you mean by

    The carousel loop is excluded from Appearance > Theme Settings > Blog > Blog Archive Layout. So, as a result, we need to use the Post Loop widget to select it.

    When I click on the posts in the carousel, it still returns to page cannot be found. Help please?

    Thanks so much!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Sure :)

    Sounds like you’ve already sorted this out but let me explain in case you haven’t.
    Normally you select a Blog page from Settings > Reading > Posts page. Then you use Appearance > Theme Settings > Blog > Blog Archive Layout to choose your layout. For various reasons, the carousel layout is not included in this list. As a result we can’t use the above method. Instead we just create a Blog page, click on the Page Builder tab, add a Post Loop widget and choose the carousel template from within that widget.

    Go to Settings > Permalinks and click Save. Then check the page not found issue.

    Thank you so much, that worked out perfectly.

    I have another question. I have the circle icons on my front home page which lets me link to the Astrology readings page.
    There are 4 icons, and 4 different reading. I have entered the text descriptions about the readings on one page, is there a way to enter a link for the circle icon that directs the click to the portion of the page? Or to that particular row on the page builder so to speak?

  25. 9 years, 1 day ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    Sure, in the Circle Icon settings there is a More URL field. There is also a checkbox to link the title to the more URL.

    To link to a row in the same page you’d need to check out anchor links:

    Hi there,

    I have added woo commerce and would like to just add an add to cart button to my Astrology readings page instead of having a shop page. I found this tutorial

    http://yourwebdesignshop.com.au/woocommerce-tutorial-how-to-insert-a-add-to-cart-button-outside-of-a-product-page/

    that asks us to add this short code

    add_to_cart id=”″ sku=”″

    it says that a woo commerce add to cart button should appear in text editor as well, and this is not the case. I manually added the short code to get the add to cart button, but it did not appear.

    help please?

    Thanks so much xxx

    I also had a question about the fonts for the site title…

    Anyway to change the size of the font and the colour of the font?

    Thank you!

  28. 8 years, 10 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    Apologies for the delay. You can set the site title attributes using a Custom CSS plugin like SiteOrigin Custom CSS. Insert the following at Appearance > Custom CSS and edit as required:

    /* Site Title */

    header#masthead .hgroup h1 {
    	color: #666666;
    	font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
    	font-size: 36px;
    }

    Hi, I Work Here

    The WooCommerce button you mentioned: http://yourwebdesignshop.com.au/woocommerce-tutorial-how-to-insert-a-add-to-cart-button-outside-of-a-product-page/, that button is added by an additional plugin called:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/woocommerce-shortcodes/

    The shortcode you’ve asked about is:

    [add_to_cart_url id="99"]

    Replace 99 with the product ID. To get the product ID, follow these steps:

    https://support.woothemes.com/hc/en-us/articles/203054126-How-to-Find-a-WooCommerce-Product-ID

    Thanks Andrew!

    I have gotten the add to cart buttons to work. I am a little puzzled as some of them have their text in purple, and the other buttons have their text in green. I like the purple text. Anyway to standardize them?
    Strangely, the color of the text on the button changes with different browsers as well, namely CHrome and Firefox. You can see here

    http://www.spiritstarastrology.com/astrology-readings-2/

    Another thing is that I have the carousel working, where people can click on the image if they would like to read the blog post. Is there a way where I can have the carousel on top, and the latest blog post in its entirety below the carousel?

    Thanks very much!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Button Hover Issue

    Please, try adding the following to Appearance > Custom CSS:

    /* WooCommerce Button Hover */

    .woocommerce a.button:hover {
      background: #ffffff;
      background-image: -webkit-gradient(linear, left bottom, left top, color-stop(0, #ebebeb), color-stop(1, #ffffff));
      background-image: -ms-linear-gradient(bottom, #ebebeb, #ffffff);
      background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(center bottom, #ebebeb 0%, #ffffff 100%);
      background-image: -o-linear-gradient(#ffffff, #ebebeb);
    }

    Carousel

    Sure, you can re-order rows at Pages > Home > Page Builder or Appearance > Home as required. To insert your blog posts, insert a Post Loop widget and select the “Blog” template layout from the widget’s settings.

  32. 8 years, 10 months ago redrosesburning

    Hi Andrew,

    Thanks for your help. I added the CSS, but the text on the add to cart buttons still differ, from purple to grey. You can see it here. I prefer the purple text on the button.

    http://www.spiritstarastrology.com/astrology-readings-2/

    I also had a question about the blog posts on the front page. I have selected the blog template from the post loop widget. I was wondering now if the Posts Title can appear on top of the blog post on the home page – You can see here that only the featured image shows, and then the content, without the title..http://www.spiritstarastrology.com/

    On the blog post page itself the title appears. I could add a title on the post before the content in my post editor, but then on the blog post page itself, the title would appear twice.

    :)

    Cheers!

    Hi, I Work Here

    The buttons on this page are now displaying as I would expect:
    http://www.spiritstarastrology.com/astrology-readings-2/
    Please, send a link to a page where the buttons are displaying differently and we can take a look.

    Blog entry titles don’t appear on the home page, most likely because Appearance > Customize > Theme Design > Fonts > Page Title Color is set to white. Ensure that there aren’t any font colors set to white.

  34. 8 years, 10 months ago redrosesburning

    The buttons are appearing good Andrew, its just that the text buttons are different in color. Do you see that?
    Its purple on time then grey the next..

    is shows up that way in my Chrome and Firefox, on my mobile all of the text is grey…

    Hi, I Work Here

    Try refreshing the site a few times, if that doesn’t help, clear your browser’s cache. All grey our side.
