Sudden change in page content display

About 2 months ago (could have been at the time of the latest WordPress update, not sure) i noticed a change in one of my blog page display on the front end. An old page of mine suddenly loads a ‘Category archives’ instead of the content i have wirtten for that page. On the backend, i still see my page as i had written it, with my content (text and pictures) but on the front end, when we click on the tab, it only display the ‘Category archives’
I am totally positive that i didn’t make this change and there is nothing to indicate what made that change. When i try to edit the page, it shows me the actual page content so i don’t know what to do.

    Hi Jameela Deen

    That’s odd. Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:

    [email protected]

    Just navigate to Users > Add New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and [email protected] for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the “Send Password” field so we receive the details.

    Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.

    Hi and thank you for taking the time to help me. I've created the new account as you suggested you should get an email with the PW. Please let me know what to do.

    I've been meaning to upgrade to a paid account with SiteOrigin but this problem has stopped me for the time being. I'll be happy to upgrade once this is solved as your theme is really great.

    Hi Jameela

    I have been going through your pages in your site and this is what I noticed.

    There was a conflict in how you are naming your slug.

    The page: http://www.diaryofaserialexpat.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=240&action=edit have the same slug as the category: http://www.diaryofaserialexpat.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?action=edit&taxonomy=category&tag_ID=128&post_type=post

    Please change the slug name on http://www.diaryofaserialexpat.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?action=edit&taxonomy=category&tag_ID=128&post_type=post from Travels to something else to get rid of the conflict

    Thank you for taking the time to check things out however this hasn't solved my problem at all. The page tab "where i've been" is meant to direct you to a page that i have created. It did just that from the beginning until recently when, with no change of my own, it started directing to a category page!

    I've just checked the page and still it directs, not the the page i created http://www.diaryofaserialexpat.com/travels/ but to a page of category.

    If if wasn't such an important page i would simply change the whole URL but i have way too many posts linked to it, without counting links on other websited leading to it.

    Please help. I have left the account i created for you open. Thank you.

    Hi and thank you but this is the solution i didn't want to use. I have been running my website for more than 2 years and this page is one of the first i created. It would take me way too much time to re-link all my posts + pictures to the new URL.

    I certainly don't understand what happened there but thank you for trying.

    Unfortunately we’re not sure what happened. The situation right now is you have two conflicting page slugs, your page and your post category. In order to resolve the conflict one would need to change, at least to my knowledge.

    and thank you so much for this last comment. As i didn't want to change the slug to my page (too many links to it) i changed the slug of the post category and it worked!!! Thank you very much.

    PS: Sorry it was maybe obvious to you but i'm new to the website building thing and i didn't know about the slugs until you mentioned it.

    My bad for not clearing that up, with Pretty Permalinks running (Settings > Permalinks), which you have running right now, the slug is just the word on the end of the url that represents the page you’re viewing (or post). I could have made that clearer.

    (In the event you ever do need to move a page, you can use a plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/ to 301 redirect the old url to the new url. Google with then know, when it next crawls the site, that the page has been moved and where to. That’s a general tip. Cheers.)
