Spanning a title across multiple columns

As the title suggests, I am attempting to span a section title across multiple columns. I have tried adding a Layout Builder widget then within the widget adding two rows. The first with a single column the second with 4 columns then applying my content and title as required. However the main issue I encounter with this workaround is the huge amount of dead space around the title and below the content. Please can you provide some pointers on how to combat this.
