Slider background image very blurry

Hi,

A few weeks ago, we updated ou rWordpress site and with that update came a new slider. Perhaps you can take a look at www.augout.nl? My question is about the three smaller images underneath the big slider. As you can see, the middle image is sharp. But on either side is a very blurry and zoomed in part of that same image. I can change the background image, but no matter what, the images left and right stay blurry and extremely zoomed in.

What I’d like to have, is three sharp images, possibly being able to change both pictures next to the middle one. Is this possible? And if not, how can I get three sharp images? I tried a very elongated version of that sharp image, but still the left and right pictures are very zoomed in, whilst the backgroundpicture is the same hight as the picture in the middle that is shown in it’s original, sharp size…

I really don’t get how this plugin works, so I hope you can help me.

Bye,
Nynke

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Nynke

    Thanks for reaching out.

To resolve the problem with your slider arrow icons not loading, please, go to SettingsGeneral. Your WordPress and Site URL’s are different, one has www and the other doesn’t. Making these URLs the same, either both with www or both without will solve the icon issue.

Once the above has been done, please, retest the slider. If the issue persists, try running a quick plugin conflict test. Instructions below:

Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

Thanks :) Let us know how that goes.

    Hello,
Uhm, slider arrows? They are visible… The problem I have is that the two images besides the main/middle image, are very blurry… They are zoomed in versions of the middle picture. I am wondering if there is a possibility that the background picture is not zoomed in…
    I don't use a SiteOrigin theme..

    Hi Nynke

Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on? If you need to keep this URL private from other users, just select “Private Reply” on the bottom right of the comment box.

    Hi Andrew,
Yes, the url is http://www.augout.nl. It is a webshop, so it shouldn't be private. Please let me know if you can't view the website.

    Thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks.

Originally, I mentioned your slider arrows aren’t loading. If you hover over the slider you’ll see a square box on the left and right, there should be arrows there.

    Please, see below:

To resolve the problem with your slider arrow icons not loading, please, go to Settings > General. Your WordPress and Site URL’s are different, one has www and the other doesn’t. Making these URLs the same, either both with www or both without will solve the icon issue.

With regards to the main problem of the three images, two blurry, in your reply six days you didn’t mention if you ran the plugin conflict test I mentioned in my reply. Could you please confirm for us if you have a chance to run that test?

Strange… On my laptop, the arrows work fine… I don't know why they don't work on your desktop, do you know what the reason can be for that? Perhaps because it's a https, and not a http?
I ran the plugin test a few minutes ago (first deleting the browse history cache). We have two SiteOrigin plugins: Page Builder and Widgets Bundle. Deactivating the Page Builder is creating a whole different site that is very chaotic. The slider also changed, instead of one row, I have three rows, each containing three images that are the same. All images were sharp… However, this of course is not what I wanted ;).
Deactivating the Widgets Bundle took away the whole slider… We have a few widgets activated from that bundle, but also when I deactivated all of those, the slider was still blurry…
We don't use a SiteOrigin theme. Deactivating the theme is something I don't dare to do, as I'm afraid that it'll never come back to normal! :(

    Hi, I Work Here

It’s possible you have the Font Awesome font family installed on your computer. It’s the only reason I can think the arrows show on your side. That or perhaps due to caching. I can see the error causing the arrow issue. The fix is really quick, just a matter of setting your WordPress and Site URL to the same from SettingsGeneral. It’s ok if you don’t want to make this fix, just letting you know the problem is there and how to correct if you want to.

The plugin conflict test shouldn’t involve deactivating SiteOrigin plugins. Apologies for any confusion created. The purpose is to test temporarily with all plugins not made by SiteOrigin deactivated.

Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue?

If possible, please, run this test for us. If you’d like us to login and take a quick look. Please, let me know :)

Just for information sake, when you change themes, the theme folder you were using remains in the /wp-content/themes/ folder. WordPress just points to the new folder you’ve selected. So for testing purposes, it’s a totally safe process to temporarily switch between themes. If the plugin conflict test fails, ideally, you should test with a default theme to rule out a theme conflict.

Of course I'm willing to make the urls the same, I was just wondering how it can be that the arrows on my laptop are showing, and not on your laptop :). English is not my native language, so perhaps I came across a bit ungratefull. Sorry for that. I went to Settings > General, and I can see two urls there: wordpres site and site adress. When I go to Settings> Reading, I can't see any siteadresses… Perhaps It's a good idea to send you the logincode, because you can probably detect the problem sooner than I can ;). I'll send them to you via a private message!
    Thanks!

    Hi, I Work Here

Certainly, I’ll remove those email addresses right away. We’re using a program that automatically removes the signatures from email replies. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always get it right. If you’re at your computer it might be better to reply on the forum directly. Apologies for the hassle.

I’m taking a look at everything now and will revert as soon as possible. Thanks.

    Hi, I Work Here

Nicely done, the slider arrow is resolved. This will also ensure that any other assets using font icons loads correctly so it was worth correcting.

I’ve added the following to the Widget’s Attributes CSS Styles field:

    margin: 0 auto
    max-width: 247px

I’m not sure how this widget looked before. Please, check the home page and let me know if this solution works.

    Thanks :)

Thanks for checking! Really appreciate it!
The slider before the update was like three images beside each other, with no moving parts. Just three small images next to each other. I saw the slides as it is now, and thankfully the blurry images are gone, great!
Unfortunately, all I can see now, is one picture… It looks way better than it was, but it's just not really what we had before… Is it possible to have three pictures again? Or the slider as it was yesterday, but then with no blurry pictures, but a sharp one on each side of the main image? I don't mind if it's a static row of three images (like before the update), or three 'series' with each three images about the same product (like it was after the update). If it's just not blurry, I'm a happy camper ;). Is there any way that this can be realised with this plugin?
Thanks again for all that you already have done!

    Hi, I Work Here

No problem. Apologies again for the hassle. Unfortunately, I’m unsure what happened to change this in the update.

I’ve re-created the slider using a Text widget. Does this work for you?

  14. 8 years, 6 months ago Nynke

Well, it looks better than before, I have to say. But it doesn't look as precise as it did before :(. And I have to say, seeing the three static images, I have grown to like the moving abilities the updated slider ;). Is there really no way to activate the slider again, and change the code, so that it doesn't zoom in on the left and right images that are beside the main image? So basically, I'd then have three images in a row, one main, and two supporting images. The same as the official slider has, just without zooming in on the background image that is visible on the left and right side of the main image.
I hope my English is understandable? It's difficult to my explain what I want in a foreign language ;).
Again, thanks for all the effort you already put in!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks for your feedback.

I’m not sure how the slider looked before or why there was a change. The slider behaviour you saw is the same behaviour that I see on my local machine. The slider shows one image at a time. To use the slider in place of the static images, the images will ideally need to be as wide as the container, 778px. To achieve the behaviour you’re looking for you, you could also consider using other slider widgets like Revolution or Meta Slider. I’m, unfortunately not sure which will have the behaviour you’re looking for. If you’d like to roll back to the previous position, click Screen Options top right and enable Revisions. You should be able to then see the last edit you made and restore it.

In summary, unfortunately at this stage the SO Slider widget, can’t, to my knowledge, achieve a slider where the previous and next images are displayed to the right and left of the main image.

    Hi, I Work Here

This plugin and widget might work for you:

    Hi Andrew,
Sorry for the late reply! I have been buisy with other things than the website ;).
I'll try to see if I can make it work with the advice that you have given me. If now, I'll have to find another way to make it work :). I think the best option is to use the Revolution Slider, as we have already installed that…
Thanks for all the work you put in, it's appreciated a lot!

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for your understanding. I hope you’re able to make further progress with Revolution for this particular slider.

    All the best :)
