Siteorigin Premium Questions

Hi Greg, Andrew and everyone at SiteOrigin,

I received the email yesterday about SiteOrigin Premium. I’m trying to figure out if I need it now, and when it will make the most sense.I’m trying to figure out the difference between my current Vantage Premium, using PageBuilder, and with the Widgets bundle AND what is being offered CURRENTLY with SiteOrigin Premium?

Thank you for responding to my email questions about what it is and pricing. You gave me this link to find out more about the product and pricing: https://siteorigin.com/downloads/premium/. Additional documentation is found at https://siteorigin.com/premium-documentation/. I appreciate the quick response. It looks very similar to using Vantage Premium and the Widgets Bundle that has been previously available.

Is there a difference in how Vantage Premium will work; or in how Vantage Premium using the Widgets Bundle works?
Is there a difference in the number or types of Widgets available?
Does the development of SiteOrigin Premium close off future updates or abilities within Vantage Premium?
Will PageBuilder continue to function without moving to SiteOrigin premium?
And just what are a few of the hints you dropped for future additions to be expected in SiteOrigin Premium? Any projected timeline?

I think you’re getting the general line of questions. I would appreciate a clear set of FAQ on the development path, what will still function in the previous one, and what will change going forward. I see it is now an annual license. So, will legacy users be expected to join in to just keep their sites current?

I do want to let you know, as I have in the past, that I fully appreciate your work, how your themes and plugins work, and both your general and specific level of support for us existing Vantage Premium customers. Any help you can give explaining these things is greatly appreciated. I’m trying to figure out if the purchase makes sense, and when it will make the most sense. I hate to beat you up on this, but need a little more info to know what is what.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi HG

    Thanks for reaching out.

The modules offered as part of SiteOrigin Premium are detailed here: Download: SiteOrigin Premium. If you already have Vantage Premium then you have Ajax comments and No attribution already. The other modules are new.

It looks very similar to using Vantage Premium and the Widgets Bundle that has been previously available.

If you purchase SiteOrigin Premium you’ll still use Widgets Bundle, SiteOrigin Premium adds modules to all of our plugins and themes.

Is there a difference in how Vantage Premium will work; or in how Vantage Premium using the Widgets Bundle works?

No, nothing will change, but if you wanted access to the modules added by SiteOrgin Premium then you’d need the extra plugin.

Is there a difference in the number or types of Widgets available?

Yes, please check out the added modules here: Download: SiteOrigin Premium

Does the development of SiteOrigin Premium close off future updates or abilities within Vantage Premium?

No, we’ll continue to support and develop Vantage Premium for existing users but it isn’t for sale to new users.

Will PageBuilder continue to function without moving to SiteOrigin premium?

Yes, SiteOrigin Premium adds things, it doesn’t take anything away.

And just what are a few of the hints you dropped for future additions to be expected in SiteOrigin Premium? Any projected timeline?

Phew, wish I could say, we’ll be working on new modules constantly, we are right now. For example, the additional contact form widget fields included in SiteOrigin Premium are being developed at the moment.

Nothing changes for Page Builder and the Widgets Bundle and Vantage Premium, we keep developing those plugins and theme. Page Builder and Widgets Bundle core is free forever. As you can see from the existing addons list: Download: SiteOrigin Premium only the Custom Post Type Builder is a standalone unit not included in any free product. Everything else just builds on existing free widgets. So for example, the Contact Form widget is free in the Widgets Bundle but SiteOrigin Premium adds additional fields like a date picker and a location field. SiteOrigin Premium will continue to develop in this way. Most of our products continue to be free with additional functionality and support added via the premium. It’s basically a layer added to our products. Also, in the past there was no way for plugin users to by support, now they can.

Greg will write a blog post today or this weekend outlining things a bit better. We’re still at a soft launch stage, we haven’t marketed this widely yet. I hope the above helps clear a few of our questions up.

Thanks for the quick reply, Andrew. So, if I understand correctly, the current differences are added capabilities within some of the Widgets Bundle like the Contact Form, the addition of the Custom Post Type Builder, and support for plugin users that do not have a premium level theme. Correct?

RE: Custom Post Types: Will the Custom Post Type Builder have features to include those custom types within templates, or other display options? I’m looking for something that makes displaying them relatively easy.

I’ll watch for anything from Greg in the blog, and keep my eyes on what you guys are doing. For right now, I’m glad I upgraded to Vantage Premium last year. I think I can still get a lot out of it before going with your new service. But, I know you guys will be adding some very useful features I’ll need soon.

Thanks to your whole team again.

Correct. More to come but that’s what is included at the moment.

RE: Custom Post Types: Will the Custom Post Type Builder have features to include those custom types within templates, or other display options? I’m looking for something that makes displaying them relatively easy.

Not quite following. Here is the docs on this section: Page: Custom Post Type Builder. There are sub-pages. I probably need to revamp these pages but I hope they give you some idea of what the CPT Builder can do.

Perhaps you can explain what you mean by including those custom post types in templates and display options. Will do my best to explain.

    For sure :)
