Site Origin Hero widget not Editable. Rest Widgets working fine.

By akrantrao, 3 years ago. Last reply by Andrew Misplon, 3 years ago.

Hi,

I’m trying to add Site Origin > Hero image widgets on my Home page, however the save button doesn’t seem to be working.

Other widgets like post carousel, images, buttons, etc are working fine and are getting added/edited to any page.

Site Details
– Theme – Listimia wordpress
– SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle Version 1.17.8
– WordPress version 5.5.1

Additonal info
– No Caching plugins installed.
– Preview of widget works fine and I can see the the changes I make, but I can’t seem to save them

Already tried, but didn’t work
– Disabling Siteorigin plugin and Hero Widget and then activating it again.
– Creating a fresh widget in case there was an error
– Toggled the Disable the visual editor when writing in user Profile.
– Disabled the fit text option.
– Tried to add other page templates with no success.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks

    Hi Akrantrao

    Thanks for reaching out.

Are there perhaps errors in red text in the browser console when the issue occurs? Here is how to check https://wordpress.org/support/article/using-your-browser-to-diagnose-javascript-errors/#step-3-diagnosis.

    Hi Andrew,

The button isn’t clickable. It seems to to generate no error logs in console or any XHR request in the network tab either.

If you can point me to the line of code in JS where the click handler is bound, I can try putting a breakpoint to see if something is breaking.

    Thanks,

    Hi Akrantrao

Thanks for the feedback. Before we dive into technical troubleshooting, please, could you try checking for a working baseline? Does the issue persist if you temporarily deactivate all plugins not authored by SiteOrigin? The initial part of this test should only take a couple of minutes. Thanks again.

    Sure Andrew.

    Did the following:
    – Disabled all plugins on the site except Site Origin
    – Tried editing existing hero widget. No success (preview, delete, add frames, add buttons and the rest of the widget editor all works)
    – Tried creating a new hero widget. No Success

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks. Which theme are you using?

Geodirectories V2 Plugin with Listimia wordpress theme.

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks. We can test with the theme if it’s available for download, this is challenging with premium themes. An extended plugin conflict test would be as follows:

    * Temporarily switch to a default theme like Twenty Twenty.
    * Temporarily deactivate all plugins except for the Widgets Bundle and Page Builder if you’re using Page Builder in this situation.
    * Do you have a working baseline in this state?

There can be some very minor adjustments required after switching themes, sometimes widgets move to the Inactive Widgets area at AppearanceWidgets and similar minor changes. Usually, though, there is no hassle when changing themes and then changing back.

    Hi Andrew,

Turns out the plugin UI doesn’t work on Mac Safari. Works fine on Chrome/Firefox

My UA in case you want to replicate it.

    “Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_3) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/13.0.5 Safari/605.1.15”

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for the update. I’m able to test in macOS 10.14.6 (Mojave) and Safari Version 13.1.2 (14609.3.5.1.5), at the moment, I can’t replicate the issue. If you’d like to investigate further, does the issue persist in a Private Browsing window in Safari? Thanks.

    Hi Andrew,

I’m unblocked in my workflow, but happy to help debug further.

Checked Private window in safari and the Hero widget still dosn’t work.
    * The form state change is detected, so the button changes from “Saved (grey)” to “Save (blue)”
    * Save still doesn’t work. As before, no console error and no network call is made.

    More details about the system.
    * macOS Cataline 10.15.3 (19D76)
    * Safari UA – Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_3) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/13.0.5 Safari/605.1.15
    * Safari – No extenstions installed/active
    * Safari – Prevent Cross site tracking – enabled
    * Safari – No content blocker installed

Additonal confirmation using the extended plugin conflict test.
    * Copied the entire site to my local server, disabled all the plugins and moved to 2020 WP theme
    * Hero widget still doesn’t work on Safari, but works on Chrome/FF

Let me know if you need any more information to help replicate this.

    Thanks

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for the effort, appreciate it. I’ll have someone here running Catalina do a test in Safari and get back to you.

To confirm, this is the button that isn’t working? https://imgur.com/a/XmJmbtn

My editor looks a little different, but yes, its the same button.

    Hi, I Work Here

Ahh in a theme widget area. I can replicate that. I thought the issue was in Page Builder. I’ll log this shortly and keep you updated.
