Row IDs for Page Navigation

By razorpig, 7 years ago. Last reply by razorpig, 7 years ago.

Hi, I use row IDs to navigate around a page. When I’m on that page, the links work perfectly. The page scroll smoothly to the target section and it’s neatly positioned at the top of the browser window. If I click the same link from a DIFFERENT page, the target section doesn’t align at the top of the screen, or in the middle (which would be fine) – it’s half in half out :-(

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
RP

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi RP,

Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at what’s going on?

  2. 7 years, 9 months ago razorpig

    Hi Alex,

Sure. This is an early version of the site but it has the same issue.

    http://www.razorweb.co.uk

You’ll notice if you’re on either the Home or the Courses page, the drop-down links for that particular page work fine . If you navigate from a different page eg. Contact, then the drop-down links takes you to the right page (either Home or Courses) but not the right location.

I’m very confused??? Hope you can throw a little light on the situation.

    Many thanks for your reply…
    Mark

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mark,

Okay I’m 99% sure I know what’s going on and it’s not on you – it’s on us. Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look at a few things?

    Hi Alex,

Thank you so much for your time. I’ve done as you suggested. Let me know what you find out.

    Best Regards
    Mark

PS: I’ve had a few intermittent timeout issues and server errors recently, so don’t be surprised if you experience a few glitches. I’m currently talking to my hosting company about it.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mark,

Unfortunately, I haven’t received the email yet (you’ll receive notice of when I do) and due to the issues you mentioned – I suspect it failed to send. Can you please try resending it?

    Hi Alex,

I just recreated your account, but I also tried one for myself and never got the details sent through. If you don’t get the email let me know and I’ll transfer the password through Privnote.

    Cheers

    Hi Alex,

I see the details eventually came through, but there’s obviously a considerable delay with emails sent from my site. I just received all the test messages that I sent from the Contact form ages ago.

Let me know if you have any problems logging in.

    Regards
    Mark

I’m now getting an “”Error establishing a database connection” when trying to connect to the site. I just logged in to my hosting account and the database is gone.

OK. The site has come back :-) Must be related to the intermittent server issues I’ve been having.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mark,

Yeah, the database connection issue is definitely related to your server issues – I would report it to your hosting provider.

Okay, so this sort of issue isn’t something I personally can fix (I thought it was but my solution didn’t work). I’ll log this as an issue but in the meantime, you’ll need to use something like Page scroll to id instead of the base theme scrolling functionality.

Once installed please navigate to WP AdminSettingsPage scroll to id and tick Enable on WordPress Menu Links. Then set an offset (try 200 to start with, you may need to adjust it further), then enable Scroll to Location Hash and enable Enable for all targets, then try adding a delay of say, 1000 – 2000.

    Hi Alex,

No problem. Thanks for your time – I appreciate it. I’ll try the Page Scroll to ID and report back.

    Cheers

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mark,

The development team actually got on this much sooner than expected. Can you please try this version of North? To install it, please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceThemes and click Add NewUpload Theme. Then upload/activate this version [Edited: LINK REMOVED]. If it doesn’t work as desired, let me know and then switch back to your main theme by navigating to WP AdminAppearanceThemes and selecting the other inactive North theme.

    Hi Alex,

I’m having trouble downloading the revised theme. I’ll keep trying but in the meantime I’ve recreated an admin account for you with the same details as before – hope you receive the email! If you have time feel free to try it out yourself. You’ll see I installed the Page Scroll to ID plugin and it worked fine, but I’ve deactivated it for now while we troubleshoot.

Thanks again for all your help.

    Best Regards

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mark,

Thanks, but unfortunately, while better, it’s still not like how it should be. I’ll let the development team know – sorry about this! :(

No worries Alex. I appreciate your efforts. I’ll leave your admin account active for now in case you want to try anything else. I’ll also keep trying and let you know if I get any results. Thanks again ;-)
