Problem with Simple Image Sizes Plugin

Going through the forum, I saw a lot of references to the Simple Images Sizes plugin to resize the featured image on post page. I believe Vantage uses 720×380 featured image so I took it down to 620×280. I want to reset all my post images back to 720×380 and I’ll use custom CSS to resize instead.

Can you tell me how to go back to original size? Vantage is one of the better themes I’ve come across and want to make sure I can work with it before investing time/money.

    Hi Miguel

    Thanks for reaching out. To reset, use Simple Image Sizes to change the featured image size back to its original dimensions. Then once saved run Regenerate Thumbnails:

      Oops, correction: I selected both “pages” and “posts” in the post type section.

    Hey Andrew,
    I used Simple Image Sizes with these settings: post-thumbnail-size 720 x 380. Then I selected post-thumbnail in the Thumbnail Regeneration list. I next selected “pages” as the source I want to rebuild. Finally, I clicked “regenerate thumbnails”

    I then ran the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin you posted. I reloaded my pages and all the post featured images are still being shown at 720 x 380.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Featured images are only used in posts so I’m not sure pages is the correct item to select.

    I’m not quite following thread. You’ve said:

    In your reply above you’ve then said:

    Going on your original question I thought the intention was to get your featured images back to 720 x 380. You’ve then said they are 720 x 380 and won’t change from that size. Could please you try explain again?

      Yes I wrote while I was in a confused state of mind. LOL!

      Before running Simple Image Sizes, my blog post Featured Images were all large. Even the smaller pictures I had set as featured images were somehow blown up and looked grainy, but they were all very large. As I searched the support forum, I kept reading over and over that the default featured image size for a post is 720 x 380. When I saw how large the post featured images were, I ran the plugin and took it down to 620 x 280. That really cropped the post images way too much. I wanted to get them back to the original size they were, when they were large and blown up. As I mentioned earlier, I kept reading 720 x 380 is the default post featured image size so that’s what I set the plugin at and ran it.

      I guess I need to know what the default size is when installing Vantage theme. Obviously 720 x 380 is still cropping everything. As I mentioned, the initial theme install had all my blog post featured images huge and the smaller pictures were being blown up and grainy. I want to get back to THAT setting and then I’ll use custom CSS to resize the images on my blog posts.

      Hope I explained it a little better this time. :)

    Super, thanks for breaking that down for me. The image size is correct now, it’s 720 x 380. By default WordPress crops center, center. What you can do using Simple Image Sizes is change the crop point to Center Top if you think that’ll better suit your images.

    WordPress drops JPG image quality. You could consider using the following plugin to increase resized image quality:

    Changes like the two described above will require thumbnail regeneration to be run afterwards.
