Problem With Consultancy Site Pack?

By Terry Chadban, 7 years ago. Last reply by Alex S, 7 years ago.

Hey guys,
I have just tried to install the latest version of the Consultancy Site Pack a number of times and I am getting the same error each time.

Background: I am using InstallWP v4.5 for local WP development and have installed WP4.8 on the site.

I have emptied all content except for TwentySeventeem theme and the ‘Hello World’ post, so nothing to interfere with the install. Each time, the importer gets to about step 41/43 with no problems, then I get an ‘Login Expired’ error, then when I log back in the importer says that the install has completed, but there are no pages installed.

I have successfully installed the Highrise Site Pack on the same system, so it does look like the problem is in the pack importer itself. Just wondering if anybody else has had the same problem with the pack?

Terry

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Terry,

I’m not really familiar with InstallWP. Can you please link me to its site?

Okay so The Sitepack should log errors, so please try navigating to wp-content/plugins/consultant-packs-siteorigin-com and see if you can find an error_log. If not, please check in wp-content the base directory or wp-admin. If there isn’t an error log present, can you please enable WP_DEBUG and WP_DEBUG_LOG? Then please try the importer once more and then navigate to wp-content and open debug.log.

Please send me a copy of error_log or debug.log, which ever one you were able to find. I would recommend uploading it to Pastebin.

    Hi Alex,
The docs for InstantWP are at http://www.instantwp.com/documentation but it is just a simple local dev application for testing WP.

I will check out the error logs and get back to you but I don’t think the problem is with InstantWP because the Highrise Site Pack installed properly on the same system.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Terry,

I don’t think it’s related either, just asking out of general interest. :)

An error log would be very helpful though as we log PHP errors during the import so if there’s a specific reason why the installer failed, we should be able to see it in the error_log.

    Hi Alex,
Sorry about the delay, but I have tried a couple more times to get the pack to load, with a fresh download of both the Consultant Site Pack and InstantWP but same result.

Unfortunately there are no error logs or debug files anywhere. When I look in the Plugins folder there are no new plugins installed, and no theme installed, so it looks like the program is getting almost to the end of the installation script then just stopping and deleting everything.

Just had a closer look and Consultant Site Pack is destroying the InstantWP program itself, whereas Highrise doesn’t. I am currently enabling debug mode in a fresh install of InstantWP and will update you if I find anything more, but it definitely looks a bug in the Consultant installation script.

    Hi again Alex,
Here is the debug log file, not very long:

    [27-Jul-2017 07:02:23] WP_Community_Events::maybe_log_events_response: Valid response received. Details: {“api_url”:”https:\/\/api.wordpress.org\/events\/1.0\/”,”request_args”:{“body”:{“number”:5,”ip”:”127.0.0.0″,”locale”:”en_AU”}},”response_code”:200,”response_body”:{“location”:{“ip”:”27.96.200.58″},”events”:”5 events trimmed.”}}

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Terry,

Okay, so the odd thing is that the importer isn’t designed to remove plugins or themes or data if it fails to install (and at step 41 it’s processing images or dummy comments at that point). This, to me, suggests that there may be a permission issue or a general issue with the server (as in, general configuration issue).

Can you please try something like WampServer and install WordPress through that to see if that works? I know it’s not ideal, but it’ll allow us to rule out an issue with InstantWP. To clarify, since you’ve posted I’ve installed the Consultant site pack locally and remotely (on two different servers) without issue so I don’t think this is related to Consultant.

    Hi Alex,
I have installed Bitnami/Wordpress, and the Consultant Site Pack installs fine on that. But it doesn’t answer my original question, why Consultant Site Pack fails on all versions of InstantWP while the Hirise Site Pack installs fine? What is the difference between the two installers?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Terry,

Importer wise, nothing. Data (content and such) wise, there’s a number of differences – such as the plugins used and such.
I’m not too sure why it wouldn’t work on InstantWP. Can you get in contact with the developers of that software to see if they have any idea why this may have happened?
