Pictures in posts rotating in social media shares

Hello,

I have a website on www.jmichaelvinson.com using the Vantage Premium theme. The site had a different theme before, and we upgraded to Vantage Premium a couple of months ago. One of the reasons we upgraded was because any photo that was taken by our blog author with a vertical orientation was displaying horizontally in the link preview when shared on Facebook. The photos are taken with an iPhone, then transferred to a computer, edited and uploaded from there.

This seems to be a known issue, based on the number of posts I found about it online. One of the common ‘if nothing else works, try this’ resolutions was to change to a new theme. So, we switched to the your Vantage Premium theme.

Unfortunately, this hasn’t resolved our issue. I’ve run the links through the Facebook debugging tool, and it shows the images coming up rotated so they are in a horizontal orientation rather than the intended vertical orientation.

Do you know how we can resolve this issue? Is it a challenge with the theme? Or, is there a work-around that we can use to force the images to display properly?

Thank you!
Rachel

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Rachel

Good to hear from you. As far as I know this isn’t a theme related challenge. We can try help, but I don’t believe it’s linked to our products.

I’ve heard of this problem in the WordPress Media Library, it’s discussed her: http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/166965/how-to-fix-the-orientation-of-images-when-uploading-via-the-wordpress-media-uplo. I’ve never heard of images being normal in WordPress and then losing their orientation in Facebook.

Here are several thread possibilities. Again, these are all on the problem occurring directly in WP so I’m not sure how much help they will be. Worth a look though.

Thanks! I'll keep searching for a solution. From what I read, the solution seems to be taking pictures with the phone held only with the volume buttons pointing down. Not exactly an elegant solution, but at least it might work.

    Hi, I Work Here

Hahaha, no, that doesn’t sound ideal but really good to know. I haven’t heard that before.

Sorry I don’t have more help to offer. As you can see it’s the first time I’m hearing of this particular combination. I’ve heard of iOS – Media Library issues but never this.

Really hope you’re able to resolve.

    All the best :)
