Hi I recently applied the fix given in the following link to resolve Google webmaster errors.
The fix worked and fixed the 2 Google errors below.
Error: Missing required field “updated”.
Error: Missing required hCard “author”.
But when I access my homepage or wordpress admin, I receive the error – Parse error: syntax error and a blank screen is shown.
I have removed the Function.php text aaand the page is now currently working but would like a fix to this issue.
Please can you help?
I am using your Child Vantage Theme from the link above and applied the fix to the Style.css, Function.php and Custom.css as suggested.

Sorry to hear about the hassle.
Sorry for the confusion. The thread you’ve linked to outlines the steps that can be taken, it also provides the end result. Both shouldn’t be done. Essentially I’ve gone through the steps of creating the child theme and also offered the finished result. So to confirm, you should only use the child theme. No changes should be made to any core files of the theme as those will be overwritten during theme update.
If possible try remove the changes you made to functions.php and style.css in the main theme files. Alternatively you could re-install the main (parent) theme by switching to another theme, deleting Vantage and then re-installing it.
