Page Builder’s visual editor widget breaks after site migration

I have built a site with the Vantage theme and Page Builder. Now I have to make five copies of the site and change some of the content like the logo and stuff for each office in a chain of dentist offices.
Normally I use the Duplicator plugin to move sites, but it doesn’t work on my Client’s hosting server which is running Windows IIS, so instead I’m using the All-in-One WP Migration plugin. I’ve never used this plugin before. When I moved the site from a local server to an online Apache server using Duplicator, I had no problems. Not the case with the Client’s server and All-in-One WP Migration.
When I look at the cloned site, any page where I’ve used the Page Builder visual editor widget, the content is missing. When I open the pages in the dashboard, anywhere I’ve used the “Visual Editor” widget in Page Builder, it has converted the widget name to “wp Widget Black Studio TinyMCE”, with a message to “install the missing widget”. However the widget IS installed, and when I replace the broken Black Studio widget with another one from the Add Widget area, it works. But that means I will have to go through every single page on five different sites and insert a new visual editor widget, copy and paste the content from the text editor to the visual editor widget, then delete the broken widget. I already had to do it for the master site when I moved it onto the Client’s server, so the prospect of five more times is obviously a problem.
Any insight and advice one how to resolve this is welcome.

    Hi Site Doctor

read with interest your post here as I too am looking to duplicate my site.
I am using MultiSite Clone Duplicator by Julien. Seems to work fine. it ports everything across. The wp-config file has to got to have subdomain line to be set to false .

I checked some pages that I built via PB, they seem intact even the meta slider.

Page builder is on ver 1.5.3 and Vantage theme 2.2.3

Hope this helps but I guess its best to get Site Origins guru to confirm

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Site Doctor

At the moment Page Builder content doesn’t successfully migrate using standard DB import/export. Tools > Export (XML) works fine and so does Duplicator. This entire migration challenge is something we’ll definitely re-look at moving forward. The XML export process using Tools > Export was something that was specifically worked on at the time and took some doing to get functional. I’m just passing this on so you know we did put effort into the challenge.

At the moment we don’t have anyone on the team that has experience with Windows servers or any specific insight into how this problem could be hotfixed. I wish I had more here.

kirpaljeet – thanks for your feedback here, much appreciated.

(This might not be feedback you’re interested in but I have worked extensively with a firm that offers content management services at a super affordable rate. If you are looking at re-inserting all the Visual Editor widgets and would like to consider outside assistance for this work, let me know and I’ll pass on this info.)

I’ve run into the same issue but I’m a bit confused by some of the info you provided in that first paragraph. You said “At the moment Page Builder content doesn’t successfully migrate using standard DB import/export. Tools > Export (XML) works fine and so does Duplicator.” which to me sounded contradictory because I was under the impressions that “Tools > Export” was the standard database import/export. At any rate I tried to do that and none of my content transferred over. Am I just out of luck since I can’t get the Duplicator plugin working?

Thank you kirpaljeet – I’ll give MultiSite Clone Duplicator a shot.

Andrew – I appreciate the effort your team puts into making stuff work with everything out there on every platform, and it is a daunting task indeed! I’m really glad that Page Builder works with Duplicator! Duplicator is my go to tool, and I very rarely have to deal with the hot mess that is IIS. I’ll see if I can talk the hosting company into installing MySQLi which would allow me to use Duplicator.

    UPDATE
The hosting company installed MySQLi and zip archive, so I was able to run Duplicator on the Windows server, and the site transferred perfectly! Page Builder rocks!

Hi, I’m also trying to migrate a site across to a new host and under a different URL (from dev site to production/live).
Unfortunately Duplicator hasn’t worked for me. Everything ports across except the pages which are all pages built with pagebuilder.

XML export/import didn’t work as the pages are already in the DB, just not showing up in WP and can’t navigate to them on the site. I tried a fresh install of wordpress and exporting the pages and that worked but it doesn’t port across images or other media.

Any other ideas as to how I can make this work without having to re-configure the entire site and its contents on the new server??

    Thanks,
    SD

I’ve just hit this problem when using the all-in-one migrator https://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-wp-migration/

I’m transferring a site between local and live, but would like to also use the migrator later on with clients to install demo content to the theme I’m developing which will have page builder content in

Is there anything I can do to recover those widgets, I’ve got a bit of expertise so don’t mind getting my hands dirty if you need a debugger, if I can automate the recovery in functions.php within my theme then it shouldn’t be an issue to use all in one migrator like a demo installer
