It’s come to my realization that I have not been able to save my alt tags because of a conflict between Page builder and Visual editor. Example: If I add alt text to my image in visual and save, it doesn’t show up. I can only add an image successfully using Page builder, but it doesn’t give me the option to add alt tags.
What is the recommended method of adding an image with alt tag if I am using Page Builder and Visual Editor in conjunction with each other? Should I deactivate PageBuilder to add the html code?
Theme: U-Design
Am I supposed to add Media ( my image ) in visual and repeat the process in Page Builder?
Latest update: If I deactivate Page Builder, I can successfully add alt tags to my images ( using visual editor ) and they save fine. Once Page Builder is activated, it wipes out the alt tags altogether.
I found a work around. I inserted the alt tag code into the Page Builder itself and it finally saved the tags. I know it’s a wrong way of doing things, but it’s a quick fix for now. I know how important those alt tags are for SEO.
If there is a better method for adding alt tags using Page Builder, please inform me. Thank you.
Hi Derek
Thanks for running Page Builder.
It’s unfortunately not possible to use the Visual/Text tabs with Page Builder. Content is copied over there for plugins to access but you need to either work in Visual/Text OR Page Builder, but not both.
The widget you’re missing is called the Visual Editor widget. To get access to this widget first install:
http://wordpress.org/plugins/black-studio-tinymce-widget/
That way you can use the Add Media button with all the normal controls you’d expect when adding media via the Visual tab.
Hope that helps.
Thanks Andrew. I have found using html to format, add hyperlinks and alt tags in Page Builder is what works for me. I am now ignoring the text and visual altogether. Everything done within Page Builder. Is this the correct way?
For sure. If you’re ok with using the Text widget and a little HTML, that’s 100%. But check out the Black Studio TinyMCE plugin (Visual Editor widget) at some point. It’s pretty handy.
Someone told me that adding html alt tags in the Page Builder was a wrong way of going out editing my site. I guess he was not informed.
So technically, I could build/edit a page in dreamweaver , copy/paste the code into the text widget and this would be good to go?
There is no problem with adding HTML to a Page Builder page via either:
Text widget
OR
Visual Editor widget – HTML tab within that widget
So you’re all good.
I have been using TinyMCE Advanced by Andrew Ozz. You recommend Black Studio over this one? Should I use both?
You could do that.
My advice is to use the theme, theme options and plugins to begin with. Then to further customise if needed, use Custom CSS (Appearance > Custom CSS in Vantage Premium or Jetpack’s Custom CSS module). Finally, for items you can’t change with CSS, use a child theme and edit the them files you need to edit within the child theme. This would be the best workflow in my mind to get the most out of the template while customising it.
I haven’t tested any other Visual Editor widget other than Black Studio. It’s up to you but not necessary to run both.
You have helped me a ton with your solid advice. Thank you Andrew.
You have given me a solid workflow to follow, and this is exactly what I needed.
For sure. Glad we could help. All the best.
