I have built a simple photography website using WordPress and Origami (free). I have no previous experience in building websites.
I am very happy with the results when viewed on a computer screen or tablet. However, the display of photographs on a mobile phone (both IOS and Android) is not good.
In Portrait format images have wide blank margins, so that only about half the width of the screen is available for the image. As a result it is too small.
In Landscape mode images partly drop off the bottom of the screen.
I would appreciate any help in fixing this.

Origami isn’t handling the tiled gallery or carousel, those are both handled by Jetpack. You should find that the tiled gallery and carousel looks the same when using another theme.
You can deactivate the Jetpack Carousel addon and move to another solution. To avoid having to re-do your galleries you’d be looking for a lightbox solution that uses existing WordPress galleries.
There are lots of gallery lightbox plugins available but most require that images be uploaded to the plugin’s own gallery. To use your existing galleries, you’ll be looking for a lightbox gallery plugin that extends the default WordPress gallery. I tried searching now, here is one plugin that extends https://wordpress.org/plugins/gallery-lightbox-slider/. Take a look around, test the plugin demos that are usually provided and look for a plugin that extends default galleries. I, unfortunately, don’t have a plugin I can immediately recommend.
The reason the carousel images are sized the way they are on my phone is to maintain their relative size. The only thing that could be a bit different is the padding. I don’t know that padding is an option/setting in Jetpack Carousel.

Thanks, Andrew, I could not make the Lightbox plugin work, but I am happy now with the way the images display on the site. I will continue to explore alternatives, however. One can always improve. WordPress is both fun and frustrating!
