Non-homepage slider ‘Snapshot’ – how do I get it to work? The basics

I am no WP pro and I have just switched to the Snapshot theme. I am using it as my business website. I need to have a slider on each of my gallery pages. I understand how to select the images to appear on the homepage slider but not how to select images for each gallery page.
I was assuming I could create a new page and choose the ‘slider and text’ template but how do I assign images to the slider please?
At present I have just left the old slider in there which doesn;t have the appearance I’d like.
many thanks for any help!

In addition, when I navigate from any page to the homepage a different homepage is displayed than the one you first enter the siote.

The differences being there are text boxes instead of images beneath the slider.

Any advice, as I am such a novice, greatfully received. Thanks : )

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Claire

    Thanks for running Snapshot.

    Slider:

The Snapshot slider unfortunately only displays on the home page. The main image seen in posts, like this one here: http://demo.siteorigin.com/snapshot/2012/07/27/bubbles/ is a featured image. Here is how you can add featured images: http://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/

What I’d recommend doing for galleries on posts or pages is to add them via the Add Media button into the content area. I’d then use the following two modules within the Jetpack plugin:

    http://jetpack.me/support/tiled-galleries/
    http://jetpack.me/support/carousel/

The carousel module in Jetpack will open your galleries into a nice full page, responsive lightbox.

    Home Page:

Head to Appearance > Home Page and turn that page OFF using the toggle at the top. Additionally, check what your home url is set to under Settings > General. Finally, go to Appearance > Menus and ensure your menu’s home link goes to http://ironbutterflydesign.co.uk/. You’ll only be able to do this if you’ve created a custom menu there and assigned it to the theme’s primary menu location.

Let us know how that goes.

Hi Andrew, thanks so much for the speedy response. With regards the homepage issue I followed the instructions and all was as should be but then I noticed the URL was hompage2 and I had a second homepage listed in my pages so I’ve switched it to private so now that’s working fine.

That’s a pity ref the slider but I guess it might make the site slow loading having such big sliders…? I will explore the plugins now.

Sorry one more question. I am editing the homepage via Appearance > Homepage > Edit Page. There is a box top left of the slider which if I click on it takes me to the contact page. Its just a grey box so I’d ideally like to remove it or if not possible how do I edit it by including some text please?

I really like the Snapshot theme so thanks very much.

    Many thanks : )

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for your feedback Claire. I’m not following you on the box top left of the slider. Is this something I can see on your site now?

    Hi, I Work Here

Ahh with you now. How the slider works is it pulls posts and displays their featured images. Do your posts have titles added, that’s what wants to be displayed there.

Our demo might help display this visually.

    Hi, I Work Here

I know you’re partly through your build but it’s worth a mention, for a more flexible slider and a slider on each page, our Vantage theme has integration with MetaSlider for this purpose:

Hi Andrew, that makes sense regarding the box on homepage slider, thanks, can it be positioned differently, perhaps at the bottom of the slider?

I will consider Vantage as I already had my site built so I’m just changing theme to give it a better aesthetic appeal (mainly the homepage as I had a really dull static one) and update a little of the content, so perhaps the slider functionality will be better for me. But I love Snapshot’s homepage – cleanness of logo in line with menu…

    Thank you,
    Claire
