Mobile version of website not updating like desktop version

By carma42, 6 years ago. Last reply by carma42, 6 years ago.

I am using the Sydney theme and never had a problem until last week. I made a few basic changes to our moberlysoccer.org website and it updated fine on the desktop version but the mobile version refuses to update. Help please we are in the middle of soccer registration lol.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Carma42,

Do you have any caching plugins or server side caching in place? I ask because that would explain the difference – most caches won’t affect logged in people.

What are some of the changes you tried to make?

  2. 6 years, 3 months ago carma42

I do not have any caching plugins that I know of other than the one GoDaddy provides that is built in. I only edited web links in some of my clickable links. I really only changed some verbiage and moved a couple widgets. Let me know if you have any ideas or if I need to provide more info. I am a beginner with this but never had a problem for over a year when I took this website over for our organization.

FYI I use Page Builder by Site Origin

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Carma42,

To clarify, what changes are you specifically trying to make that aren’t sticking? All changes? Certain changes (as in, I cannot update X widget)? Does this issue affect every page or just a single page or a few specific pages?

Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look?

All changes do not stick. Specifically site links where it says Register Here in the Players and Coaches section of our website.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Carma,

Did you create us an account? I ask as we haven’t received anything from your website – can you please try creating it again?

We really need to inspect your website to work out why this may be happening.

  8. 6 years, 3 months ago carma42

I have not since that seems a little sketchy to create and admin account on my site for someone else. how to verify you as a valid site origin employee? Not discrediting you, just a little sketched out to create that.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Carma,

It’s definitely a good idea to be careful with creating admin accounts. Alex does work for SiteOrigin, we give all our official support staff a “Hi, I Work Here” badge on the forums.

That said, creating an admin account for us to log in and do diagnostics is completely optional. If you’re not comfortable doing it, then we can continue helping you by just pointing you in the right direction.

Ok it is done. I set up the Admin account.

    Will that work?

  13. 6 years, 3 months ago carma42

I will pay for premium support now if it will accelerate getting this resolved. Let me know.

I have purchased SiteOrigin Premium yearly subscription. Do I need to open a ticket a different way now?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Carma42,

Very sorry for the delay – we aren’t notified about premium purchases in an email so I wasn’t aware you were a premium user until I saw your reply.

I’ve run a few tests and I seem to be able to make edits without issue and have them appear on mobile. Can you please outline an exact edit you’ve attempted to make that hasn’t appeared on mobile for you? Also, ideally, please link me to the page you’re working on so I can try and replicate the outlined steps. Oh and I notice that you’re using GoDaddy. GoDaddy has caching present so if certain changes aren’t visible, try clearing your page cache:

By the way, as you’re a premium user, you’re entitled to priority email support. If you would like to make use of that, please follow the instructions found on your Page: Dashboard (please refer to the support tab). Please reference this thread and include your SiteOrigin order key in the email.

I have flushed cache multiple times to resolve this with no affect. Here is where and what is not changing but NOTHING updates not just this.
Players & Coaches section with the link for Register Here button.

In that screenshot the left image is wrong the right image is correct. Mobile only FYI

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Carma42,

Where was the screenshot on the left device took? Hm. Is that the issue you’re specifically referring too – that changes aren’t be reflected on that device? If so, try clearing the browser cache of that device to see if that helps.

if not, I’ve made a very basic change to the pictured area in your screenshot – I added the word test to the bottom of it. Can you please take a look at it and confirm if you’re able to see it? For reference, I’m able to see it without issue. Here’s a screenshot:

  19. 6 years, 3 months ago carma42

It shows correctly only if I use Incognito mode in Chrome on my phone. Clearing cache does not work. This is an issue with all of our soccer parents that have ever visited our site. I have cleared cache, tried different browsers and even cleared all data on users phones still not working. This always has worked fine and now does not in the last couple weeks.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Carma,

That’s odd. Hm. To confirm, the previous screenshot contained a screenshot of two devices. What is the device in the left screenshot? What is the difference between the device on the left and the device on the right?

  21. 6 years, 3 months ago carma42

Device on the left is a fresh install on my phone of Firefox not showing the correct info. the right one is on my phone in chrome. Its like the only way I see it correctly is to use a cached version in my chrome browser on my phone and even if I clear cache in chrome on my phone it still shows correctly but a new user, new browser, or incognito mode does not show the updated info. Confusing right….

  22. 6 years, 3 months ago carma42

I see your test word in there but only on my PC and only on my phone with NOT using incognito. Clear cache on my phone and it still shows correctly but use Firefox or Incognito and it is the old stuff.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Carma,

Okay so I’ve downloaded and installed FireFox and I see the change without issue. (screenshot below).

Are you using something like Cloudflare or anything like that? I ask as that would explain why I would see something different to you. If you are, please clear your Cloudflare cache to see if that helps. If you aren’t using Cloudflare, I would reach out to your hosting provider and ask if they have any ideas why you (and anyone else local) isn’t able to see changes but someone based in Brisbane, Australia is able to see changes without issue. It’s possible they may have some of server side geocache – it would be quite odd, but it would explain why this is happening.

  24. 6 years, 3 months ago carma42

It has to be a good cache issue because I can VPN on my phone to Australia and other countries and it works but when I go to the website on aus server not on VPN it isn’t the updated site. So weird.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Carma,

Another thought (although this one is unlikely): It’s possible you all happen to be using the same internet provider and that internet provider caches web traffic. Do you see any differences when you’re using WiFi vs your Mobile data?

  26. 6 years, 3 months ago carma42

I appreciate your help. we got it all figured out. It was a caching issue that had to be done on Godaddy’s side. Good grief. Thanks for all the help.
