Hey,
I recently was checking my website and realized the vast majority of my blog posts are no longer visible. When I go into the text editor it says there are missing widgets and when you click on one of them I get this text: ‘The widget WP_Widget_Black_Studio_TinyMCE is not available. Please try locate and install the missing plugin. Post on the support forums if you need help.’ Clicking on ‘support forums’ leads here.
Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Andrew
Thanks for reaching out. Try heading over to Plugins, is the Black Studio TinyMCE plugin installed and activated?
https://wordpress.org/plugins/black-studio-tinymce-widget/
Hi Andrew,
So sorry for the delayed response.
Yes, the plugin is installed, but when I click to activate it I get the following error message:
“The following plugins are disallowed on our network and have been deactivated:
Black Studio TinyMCE Widget
Adds a new “Visual Editor” widget type based on the native WordPress TinyMCE editor.”

Sure, no problem. That’ll most likely be a hosting company message, please, reach out to your hosts. As an example here is the disallowed list for WP Engine: https://wpengine.com/support/disallowed-plugins/. I don’t know why a host would disallow Black Studio. 600,000+ active installs, last updated two months ago.
I guess it’s possible a security plugin could be involved but the wording “our network” suggests hosting company. You can rule out a plugin issue quite quickly. Temporarily deactivate all plugins except for those authored by SiteOrigin. In that state, can you activate Black Studio? If not then your hosts would be the best place to start the investigation.
Hey,
Thanks–I tried deactivating everything, but it was still displaying the same error message. I will contact the host as this seems to make little sense for them to be doing. If they’re not able to resolve this I will post here.

Thanks for trying. Please, let us know how you get on. Cheers.
Hey Andrew,
This is the response I got: “I believe that plugin was blacklisted because it was embedding the HTML editor into a widget, which is considered a big security risk. WordPress now has it’s own “html widget” option that should be used instead, if possible.”
I’ve never heard of such a thing before.
Hi Andrew
Thanks for the feedback.
Do the hosts have an actual vulnerability report to point to regarding an issue with Black Studio? Many widgets make use of the TinyMCE Editor, will they be blacklisting all widgets/blocks that make use of the TinyMCE editor? The SiteOrigin Editor widget for example does exactly what the Black Studio widget does. It’s up to you whether you want to spend time fighting this. Given how heavy-handed this move is, I’m not overly optimistic about getting the restriction removed. If you’d like you can email our premium support desk, [email protected], we’ll try to assist in getting around this restriction.
Changing hosts is also a viable option. Depending on the size of your site, https://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-wp-migration/ or https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/ make the process relatively easy.
Hey Andrew,
Thanks for the reply. I will reach out to them.
I did have one question: does this edit allow for Javascript?
Thanks!
Hi Andrew
Sure, no problem.
Can you perhaps explain a bit further? Which edit?
