Maps Showing Marker in Preview but Not on Maps

The marker shows up in the preview of the map, but not on the actual page.
I have tried deleting both maps and recreating them. The markers appeared live on the page for a few minutes but then upon reload, completely disappeared again.
Now, every time i try to create the map and marker, the marker shows up in the preview perfectly, but doesn’t show up on the map on the live page.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mike

Thanks for posting your question. It looks like your Maps widget is missing an API key, unfortunately, this is now a requirement.

You can get a key here: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/get-api-key. There is a setting in the Maps widget to insert it. It can take a little time to take effect.

I have tried it with the key and without. It seems to work randomly 20% of the time without the key in.
With the key, lit was not working 100% of the time.
It shows up perfectly fine in the preview, and like I said without the key, it randomly works. But with the key I’ve had zero luck.

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks for your feedback. Is there a key inserted at the moment?

  4. 8 years, 1 month ago MikeyPNJ

Yes. The API key is currently on the plugin for the home page and the contact us page.

    Hi, I Work Here

Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:

    [email protected]

Just navigate to UsersAdd New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and [email protected] for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the Send Password field so we receive the details.

Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.

    Hi, I Work Here

Thanks, it appears to be loading normally now. Is this just one of those moments where it’s fine?

  10. 8 years, 1 month ago MikeyPNJ

It must be because I just checked and it’s not displaying a marker now on either my PC, Mac or IPhone.

its been 5 days. was wondering if there has been any progress?

    Hi, I Work Here

Sorry about the delay, please, feel free to nudge me if that happens again, it shouldn’t though. I’m trying a different API key now, I need to give it 20 mins or so to see if it makes any difference. I’ve enabled all the services in the Maps API list, this has helped in the past.

    Hi, I Work Here

It looks like a plugin conflict. There is or are other plugins with location information and perhaps Maps API keys that are conflicting. Please, try the following test and let me know how it goes.

    Apologies again for the delay.

    //

This sounds like it could be a plugin conflict issue. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

tried that, it caused other problems disabling plugins, but nothing fixed the map marker.

    here is a thought.
the webpage was originally built on a a different server space and was moved manually from thewilltodogood.org to bodyworksdw.com. This was done to prevent problems on the old site running properly while building the new site. once completed, the site was moved to its actual home at bodyworksdw.com
could this be causing a conflict in the plugin itself?

also note we deleted the theme and site origin plugin bundle on the old page.

i noticed there are two plugins, one is the google locations.
one is the siteorigin bundle which has google map locations in it.

i disabled the stand alone plug in and the map marker on the homepage began functioning again
(dont know if its temp like before or permenant)
but the map on the contact us page disappeared.

i deleted the widget from that page and re-added it, but the map still does not show up.

If I re-activate the stand alone plugin and deactivate the siteorigin bundle, neither map works.
If i activate them both, both maps work but the markers aren’t there.
If i deactivate the stand alone, the home page works, but the contact us page isnt showing up at all.’

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mike

Were you able to complete the full conflict test? If you’d like me to run it for you, I can. The full test would be to deactivate all of your plugins at once except for Page Builder and the Widgets Bundle and then also switch over to Twenty Sixteen or any other default WordPress theme. At that point, the markers on the contact page map should work. That’s your baseline. Next, you’d switch back to your theme and check the contact page again, if it’s still working then the theme isn’t the issue. Next, you’d reactivate your plugins one at a time, checking the contact page for a break after each activation. If you are using a caching plugin, its cache must be cleared before the test begins.

Thanks, I’ve read your feedback above but it’s it isn’t conclusive. Are you able to establish a working baseline, this is the most important step. Clear cache if you have a caching plugin and then deactivate all plugins except Page Builder and Widgets Bundle and then switch over Twenty Sixteen or another default theme. At this point, is the issue on the contact page resolved? Once we have this baseline we can work upwards as I described above. Without the baseline it can get very confusing.

Yes I went through which each and every plugin. Deactivating them. It caused other problems but didn't fix any map issues. I also tried the generic themes. No change there either. The site origin plugin came with the physio theme.

The only changes in the map came from what I described before with the two map plugins. One Google locations and one site origin bundle with Google locations in it.

    Hi, I Work Here

Hi Mike, phew, thanks for hanging in there. The plugin conflict test needs to be done all at once, all plugins off at the same time in conjunction with a default theme. Would you mind if I tried the test, just to confirm? Yes, it will completely break your site, that’s expected. It’s a quick test though. If you want, I can use a maintenance mode plugin to hide that from the public.

    Hi

Having the same problem – yesterday maps was showing on main page, now it’s not – but working fine in widget preview – I have api key – strangely enough works fine on other side’s I build but still working under page builder version: 2.4.14

I don’t wanna upgrade that other site to 2.4.15 incase it breaksdown as well

hope there is a solution very quickly on this

    Thanks

          Hi, I Work Here

Super, glad to hear you’ve made progress.

  22. 8 years, 27 days ago MikeyPNJ

you can do the test again if you want (during off-peak hours of course,
like i did after Midnight EST), but i did preform it.
Yes it did completely break the site. The map marker problem still didn't function at all. The only differences with the map markers are what i explained to you with the two locations plugin and how if I deactivate the one that is seperate from the origin bundle plugin that came in with the site, the marker works fine on the main page, but on the contact us page the map completely disapears.

    Hi, I Work Here

That’s great news! Did he have specific feedback for how he resolved?
