lines before and after bullet points

I have tried and tried to figure out how to change the list style so that it shows as a regular bullet point list instead of a list with lines before and after each item…. but I have failed.
I added the custom CSS but it didn’t help.
/* Lists */

.entry-content ul {
list-style-type: disc;
}

The lists are being created using the SiteOrigin Editor
