Issue with the browser tab text in Origami

By Onsyzygy, 8 years ago. Last reply by SiteOrigin, 8 years ago.

I have a very peculiar issue with Origami Theme.

I would like to set a tab text for browsers, but it seems that the only option available to do that is from Customize > Site Identity. This seems to override WordPress settings as well.

The issue is… whenever I set the “Site Title” and “Tagline” for my site, this text is appearing correctly in the browser tab of a desktop PC, but it’s appearing as well as a bulky and inelegant text in the middle of my header image on the mobile version, with a very bad layout as well.

Considering I use an image for header, this is causing me a lot of trouble.

Could it be possible to set a title and a tagline to appear in the desktop browser tab without influencing the code of the mobile site?

Thanks a lot in advance for looking into this.

    Hi Onsyzygy

The best way to do this would be using something like Yoast SEO, which is a very powerful plugin that gives you fine grained control over things like what goes in your page’s title tags (this is what your browser uses for the tab title).

    Hi Greg,

sorry to get back on this so late.

I have followed your advice, so I have installed the Yoast SEO plugin, but I couldn’t find any tool to change the title tags or, to say it better, I found the whole tool very confusing. It shows me a template but when I change the template the changes are not reflected in the theme.

Is there any other solution for that? I think that this is an issue related to Origami, as with other themes it doesn’t happen, and since I like this theme a lot I would like to keep it.

    Thanks again!

    UPDATE:

Maybe it would be better for me if the Origami theme would be fully editable in its mobile form as well. This is the main problem… a lot of layout and appearance issues for the mobile site cannot be solved from the desktop theme editor. For example… I cannot change the link color in the mobile version. Or am I missing something?

    Hi Onsyzygy

With WordPress SEO activated, go to Pages > Home (or whatever is set as your Front Page), scroll down to the Yoast SEO meta box, there you’ll see the Snippet Editor. Hover over the title for the page and click one to edit it.

The mobile version of the site will be the same as the desktop version. If it isn’t, a plugin is taking over. If you’re using Jetpack, go to Jetpack > Settings and deactivate Mobile Theme.
